Looking on info on my ?? passion fruit
« on: October 07, 2019, 09:21:44 AM »
Tried to root passion fruits. No luck. So I was gifted this one by my daughter. Came from a local nursery and was sold as a patio plant. Only info on the label is passion fruit. No variety listed. Fruit purplish. Inside yellow/orange pulp. Already gave me one ripe fruit. Taste sweet//sour. Better than the yellow skinned ones I am familiar with. Grows in a 5 gallon pot. Has about 9 more fruits at different stages of development. Will soon have to come inside.

Most likely they are Frederick.  If not, then Possum.  Frederick usually drop while yellow/greenish.  After a few days to a week on the counter, they will start to turn purple.

Thanks for the info. I am secretly hoping that it's possum because I googled it and the info says it might me cold hardy. That's a good thing for me being in zone 6b/7a??. I will still put it away as soon as it gets cold because I love my little passion plant. Reminds me of home.

Grows like a weed here in California... mine is up in the powerlines! Ha ha I get 20 fruit a day easily! Love it. mine is Fredrick. I would say the flowers will maybe give the variety away more!

Fredrick is egg shape.  Possum purple is egg shape also but more round.  Red rover is round like a ball with thick shell.  Yours(in the original post) looks like red rover.  Its definitely not a fredrick.
