Leo Manuel #3 cherimoya atemoya tree
« on: June 09, 2020, 05:21:49 PM »
45$ local pickup in poway CA 92064

In tall pot.  Rootstock head still on the tree, you can remove it or multi graft the tree or let the rootstock grow.  It's on pierce seedling with graft veneer down low to ground and growing nicely.  Grafted in February.

Will post photos later today

Justin was first person to contact me then the fruitkid.  If Justin gets this one I will have another one ready in a few weeks fruitkid.

Heres the picture of the plant.

The grafted part is on bottom.  I havent removed the top of the tree yet.  If I was planting it, I would remove half of the top part and then wait a month and remove the rest.  But you could do it however you wanted.  The tree is definitely good to go, I would keep it but I planted 5 of these already and this is an extra.

Bummer to have missed the first one but thanks for giving me dibs on the second.  Look forward to hearing from you when it's ready.
Thanks, Micah

I've tasted some top tier cherimoya and Leo #3 might be the best so far.

I'm not making anymore trees this year guys.  If it was easy to graft still I would but it's too late here.  Was 100F and single digit humidity here yesterday.

I wonder how it would do in Florida.  Do you think it requires cooler weather than South Florida's?  What about Central Florida?  Any opinions on that, Brad?

I have no idea.  But it seemed like Simon was hoping it would grow in FL.  I think someone on here had one but the fruit look like african prides maybe wasnt really the LM3.  So who knows?  I guess you can graft it and try it.  Ill have scions for sale in April.

Yeah, I believe people in Florida are growing it. I definitely sent some scions and seeds from this variety around. It’s a great fruit. This variety is also a great variety to graft onto the top of a young Cherimoya because as the tree grows, the upper branches will be too high for hand pollination but this variety is supposed to set fruit on its own, without hand pollination.

Young trees won’t set fruit on their own when they’re small but Leo’s older tree does.

Thanks for the info, guys.  In my next life (meaning when we purchase a house), I really have to learn grafting!

Not to hijack the post, but I finally did my first grafts last night. Was very fortunate to get some invaluable assistance from a few forum members, now I’m emboldened.

Time will tell if those grafts take, but I can already tell the practice can be addictive!  :)

I know we shouldn't have turned this into a discussion.  I hope Brad didn't mind.  He sold the tree, and he'll sell more in the future!  Everybody happy.

John I dont mind at all, I will tell you guys if I did.

Justin came and got the tree today.  Thanks, nice meeting you.

Ive got one LM3 tree left but its not ready to sell.  Maybe in a few weeks.  Its on a Rauls giant cherimoya rootstock so its a special plant that someone should let both varieties grow on.

Only 108 miles, Vince.  Gas is cheap these days.  It's totally worth it.  Stop by the beach on the way home.  (You can tell me to shut the f up anytime.)
