Does Mamey Sapote fruit anywhere in Southern California
« on: November 21, 2017, 02:21:23 AM »
I have a 'Pace' Mamey I planted on a hillside in Carlsbad, California. Supposedly this variety is more cold hardy.

Does anyone have first hand experience, seeing or trying a mamey grown in california?

I've got a fruiting one in Chula Vista, I believe it is a Pantin variety. It fruited once and then died back, but is doing fine now. I Have another one in a 25 gal. pot that is doing fine.

Fruited and ripen magagna and fruits drop from Mamey Colorado to young. There are a lot of seedling fruiting like cangrejo in SoCal

My father has this mammey sapote growing in his yard in East Los Angeles, Ca.  It's about 15' tall and about 5yrs old.  No fruit set yet.
