5+ must have for SW Florida??
« on: February 18, 2018, 10:14:37 PM »
OK, I just got a Geffner Sapote, and I have several other trees, mostly citrus.  Most of my 2.5 acres are in 100 yr flood zone.  I have multiple citrus, blueberries, 2 mango, 3 avocado, 2 jackfruit, although the main tree does not appear healthy.  I have apple ( not even in the ground yet) and many others, what would you recommend without destroying any good, native trees?

I am interested in:  Ice cream bean, Mamee Sapote, and peanut butter fruit ........

Am I missing anything?  If you could only have 5-6 fruit trees in 10b SW Florida, what would those me?

I'm still in a buying and planting phase, so input appreciated.

Red Jaboticaba and a dessert type Banana (Ice cream, manzano, raja puri etc). But definitely a Red Jaboticaba or two. Such a beautiful tree to watch, watch it flower, and fruit. Delicious fruit too. Multiple seasons.

No where to plant it ...but at least I got it. ;)

Sapodilla is relatively trouble free in our area. Sugar apple, guava and papaya will yield quickly. I've sent you a PM since we are near neighbors.

I also have 2 1/2 acres and I have over 100 trees and still am getting more.
I would hate to only pick 5-6? I am hoping to have fresh fruit every month of the year.

I appreciate the input.  Even the PM's.  Got one interesting suggestion on PM, an achacha.  I had never heard of it, looked it up and it gets rave reviews.

I would save a space for a Bell carambola (starfruit), probably the heaviest fruiting tree at an early age. Heavier crop in Winter and a lighter crop in Summer. Not the best fruit in the world but this variety is decent.
