My 4 year old Thai Lessard sugar apple suddenly declined (100% of leaves turned yellow) and within a week all leaves turned brown and I believe the tree may be basically dead. I don't have any pictures to post now. I hadn't added any fertilizer, insecticide, fungicide or herbicide. Tree around it are still unaffected. Does anyone have any idea what this is and if it can be solved? Hopefully is not too late or at least I can avoid it spreading to other annonas. Thanks!

« on: April 15, 2016, 02:07:33 PM »
I have a seedling of this tree, but I don't know what this tree is called. Any expert out there can help?
Fruits about 2 inches long. Flowers maybe 12 inches total. Tree height 8ft.

Here's a photo of the fruits of my African gold P.Guajava. It has interior alternating layers of beautiful pink and yellow colors. I had never seen this on other guavas. Does anyone know if this is normal for this named variety, or is it attributable to other factors (crosspollination?). The flavor/fragrance is excellent and it only has a small cavity where all the seeds are contained. Some attacks by fruit flies but great fruit/variety overall IMO.

I was considering burning some fflyer miles to go to the 2015 Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers Conference in September.
1. Could someone help me with the best events to attend and overall highlights?
2. Which are the main nurseries that I could visit to bring rare bare-root trees that are hard to find in SFlorida?
3. Any other highlights in Hawaii for tropical fruit?
Thanks!. F.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / fruiting baccaureas tips
« on: June 22, 2015, 06:18:57 AM »
I have a few baccaurea seedlings and I want to move to the next phase but I have a few questions from member who've gotten good results with these plants:
1. Can baccaurea species can cross-pollinate across different species (e.g. do you need a female-male b.motleyana or one b.motleyana and one b.edulis will do for pollinating?)
2. Is anybody fruiting baccaurea species in SFla? How to best plant these here: sun,part-shade, how far apart, irrigation, soil, pruning/shaping, etc
3. How long did it take from seed to fruit?
Thanks!.

Can anyone positively identify this fruit (photo)? I believe it's a "nance" (Byrsonima crassifolia), but i've never seen the nance fruit directly, so I'm not positive. I found this 30ft tree loaded with fruit by the roadside in Miami.  Taste is quite sweet with a bit of latex, musky and tanins (?). Any thoughts?

I'm probably going to Brazil Sao Paulo soon and wanted to bring some hard-to find fruit plants to Miami which are not available here. Does anyone have experience with this? 1. Are there any internal Brazilian regulations that need to be followed? 2. Does anyone have good recommendations of nurseries around Sao Paolo? 3. Does anyone have good recommendations about which plants to brings (which are not available in Florida)? Thanks!!!
