SOMETIMES- post image gets too busy on weekends to work directly with your forum posts

What has worked for me is you go right to the post image home site. Upload your pix. Then copy and paste the code(s) to your post here.

PostImg seems to be down (their DNS is not resolving). For example, if you try to go to https://postimg.cc/image/ds6gazcqf/ you'll get a DNS error.

Don't really know why but Postimage has shifted from postimage.com to postimage.cc. That means all your image links on posts are still to the old URL, which don't work. But if you substitute cc for com in the links they seem to work okay. It means though, on all your old posts you'd have to reload modified links for each image. I did it on a couple of posts but it's just too big and tedious a job. A real pain in the proverbial. They said something about still trying to fix it but suggested making the change anyway. Gave me the impression they intend staying with postimage.cc and bad luck about everyone's derriere.

Is there a methodical way for an admin to search and replace all instances of the .org and replace with .cc in the existing threads.  Or perhaps with the thread owner's permissions.  Is the official recommendation at this point to go back and manually update each post to the new extension?

Thanks.

If worse comes to worst, we can probably write a SQL script to go through and replace postimg.org with .cc.

Thanks.

I went back to an earlier post I had made that the images stopped showing and selected Modify and changed the .org to .cc and the images appeared again.

Another related problem I am having is the Add image to post does not work now when posting.

The modify works fine, but perhaps it's not necessary. I'm now finding all pictures using the .org extension are again showing up in the forum threads.  Hopefully, the PostImg site is permanently fixed.  I can't speak for the add image feature.

That worked, but what a PITA.

Those must be new images cause the old don't show.

The Add Image does get freaky but that can be caused by hitting the option more than once.  Look at your Toolbar if that happens.  If you have one already open, ready for an uploaded file, then it won't work again or over ride the first one if you will.

Hi Mark, at some point yesterday, all my "old" pics reappeared with the old link, but then I checked again a few hours after and they had again disappeared.  I guess we have to pay the iron price and manually change all the links.  Hopefully someone with god power rights can auto-update (after backing up) to save the user space the time for that kind of tedious, manual operation.

It will be great if you can do that. I think a lot of the traffic to the site is due to the images posted. The moderators should also seriously consider again replacing postimage with some other service. This was considered before due to offensive advertising on the site. But now you can see this service is not really dependable. Who knows when they will go completely under and all images permanently lost?

That would be great if you could resolve this.  Yeah, we're about photos here.  Never did like postimage.  It's a PITA and all you get is small images.  There's some option at Vforums where when you post you can select thumb or big image sizes.

If CM can get images in PMs working too, would be nice The jamokes at postimage never preserved those very well. I always thought post image would crap out because I cannot see how they make a profit.

I know this doesn't help the immediate problem but I have been posting images from my flickr account. When I make a post I just cut out the garbage code they try to post with just the picture. I remember having weird sideways photos with post image that I couldn't get to flip for some reason.

To add to Vermented post above, I've been using Imgur.com for the past 2 years or so, per the recommendation of Mark in Texas at the time. Yes, it was a frustrating side ways/upside down photos that couldn't be corrected that made me looking for other alternative option.

So far, it has served me well; they don't include any adds along my photos, - so, nothing for me to cut off any garbage (commercials) -  and they also let us choose the size posted on the forum; but can't be enlarged with a click however; once it's posted.

haha I backed up the db and was writing a sql script to do this, when I remembered that the forum has a cool censored word replacement feature, which I leveraged to replace postimg.org with postimg.cc :D

Old images should be working again.

postimg.ORG domain is locked by Registry, no prior notice.
While we hope to resolve the issue, we chose postimg.CC as our new home.

Any suggestions on a better image hosting service?
