First of all that was very gross, but very useful video. I'm definitely going to give this method a try if ever encounter the same problem.
Second point: Never heard of Sweet Bertha. Can you tell us the difference when compared to regular soursop?

Update: Never mind, found this old post http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=1812.0  If you ever manage to get scions, please PM

Soursop leaves, wood, and seeds contain a chemical known as annonacin, which is a neurotoxin and in a class of chemicals which are found exclusively in the annonacae family. It can also give rats who regularly consume it a problem similar to Parkinson's. It is a very good cell killer, and is commonly used to treat cancer. The seeds of cherimoya are commonly ground as a natural pesticide alternative. It was once thought that all annona fruits contained annonacin (which has been proven false), and would kill braincells.

Does cherimoya have the same annonacins?

Yes, also in leaves, bark in seeds. Most in the genus annona contain annonacin. As a matter of fact, it is ground up cherimoya seeds in particular that is used for a pesticide. Supposedly cherimoya seeds have strong anticancer properties also.

Excellent video!   but have a question,  did the rats die from drowning or the toxin ?  I mean the bucket was half full, and the rats were obviously attracted by the smell of the rotting soursop,  but what was the actual cause of death you think?

I understand that soursop has toxins in the seeds.   either way, this method seems effective, also interesting that more rats kept coming even after the first one died in there.

Would be easy to test by running same experiment using any other fruit. My guess is that the rats drowned because i don't think the soursop seeds are so powerful that they would die instantly.

I believe Har got a point when he made a statement on this on below thread:
     http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=1812.msg92419#msg92419.

However, the drowning here could have precipitated the actual death.

That can also be tested. Feed caged rat or mouse ground up soursop seeds. My guess is that it would take many hours for them to die, not instantaneous death, it's not that powerful a poison.

No I don't do this on a regular basis. It was just a one time experiment. Anyone else try it yet?

Take care.
