I would imagine you should graft the trees before selling. That way they will be ready to go. I believe you could charge more too. Lol.

Adam, I am in, too. Great the seeds got to someone who is able to spread this gem even before fruiting.

I have a feeling that MikeT will be more likely to have the ability to fill all these requests, long before I will!

That single sprout suddenly has a lot expected of it.BMc has a tree in Brisbane I believe and it appears they are not ultra tropical like a durian or mangosteen.

Feast your eyes on this fruit once again. If you have rats beware as they seem to have an unusual attraction to the seeds.A friend lost all 4 of his seeds in one night when rats broke in to his greenhouse and made  beeline for them.

That could explain why I have been missing so much of my Luc's seeds (blame on Aliens) & had to redouble orders to meet the season class trial!  Rats left them alone for years! Now I just have to figure how to mount a night vision on my Gamo .22 for a night of mosquitoes squatting; these rats are outsmarting my zappers! Too bad russell garcinia is too cold sensitive, perhaps Adam being two hours north can breed line for subtropic in twent five years or so!😁

I don't know that there will be much comparison, they seem like they are from two very different tribes of the garcinia family. I bet the taste and texture are miles apart, unlike comparing Lucs to Achachairu or Russells to Mundu.

I don't think they're different tribes, i think they are different genus: Garcinia and Rheedia. Just cause some lazy desk bound taxonomist deciced to lump them together doesn't mean they're not different.
Anyway, comparisons are odious. (Famous line from Dharma Bums.) It's not really going to be which one is better, but which one do you personally happen to like more?

These garcinias seem to be fine in the sub tropics if they are in Brisbane. The local rats are really something else and called white tailed rats or Uromys. They make short work of coconuts. It does seem however that the culprit may well have the the standard old black rat.A fruit growing enthusiast bent on revenge and identifying the perpetrator with certainty assures me he will have the last laugh.I recently lost a big batch of Matisia seeds left outside to dry a bit.Seed fragments were flung around with abandon and it was the seed equivalent of a massacre.Every one of maybe 60 chupa chupa seeds were compromised and all were casualties.

Finally! Found this post after looking around for Russel’s Sweet. Count me in for a male-female pair of grafted trees when they’re ready, Adam. I can’t afford to miss this one in my collection!

MikeT is the true source for these...I'm really just a guy who has some seeds germinating...

so far I noticed some of the ungerminated seeds are dying...(maybe it was too hot in the greenhouse...i'm sure they could have easily seen temps of about 105F briefly)...regardless, I see at least two seeds that have germinated, and looks like there could be a few more to germinate.

if i can keep them alive, i will propagate them for sure!

Nice! We gotta keep these in circulation.

Mike, would you happen to have more seeds?

I wonder how readily it would hybridize with fellow Garcinias (or even Rheedias). It might be the next big thing if we could get something on par with (or better than) the purple mangosteen, itself a hybrid. Personally, I'd like to shoot for something with an edible rind (like Luc's Rheedia), but maybe that's asking too much.

At the very least, if it cross-pollinates readily with other Garcinias, that might take care of the seedless females most people have, though that would be a step backward in propagating the pure species. With something this rare, propagating it pure is the highest priority.

Edit:

Considering that rats will eat anything that a human does (though admittedly not necessarily the other way around), I wonder what that might mean for seed edibility, human-wise. Maybe it's good as a nut? Has anyone ever tried?

I can try to get more next season but there are no guarantees as I will need to rely on the goodwill of others.I kept only 4 seeds and they have not germinated. The rest were sent east from here.I can take comfort in the fact I have a male and female tree.
Maybe there is a low germination rate and not many will sprout.

I had one a few years ago, and it didn't make it through the winter in an unheated greenhouse, who knows, I could have watered it too much and the cold took it down.

Achachairu is native to Bolivia. Luc's fruit is native to Mexico, and found growing wild in Puerto Vallarta area. Luc has posted comparison photo and the achachairu is a much smaller fruit.
