Yes I have two stalks ripening and one blooming. I have 4 good cultivars but don't remember which ones are which. I put the bananas near the horse stable where I can throw manure and lots of water at them. I had one stalk of bananas last year and they were so delicious. Also had 25 pineapples this year. It was so fun giving them to friends and family.

You will need to house them in very large pits if you attempt to fruit them in pots.

In my experience to grow bananas faster put them in a mix of cow/turkey manure and compost and make sure they always have plenty of water and dont let them dry out. Guarantee you will have bananas this time next year from those trees. Their heavy feeders. If possible, to get that little extra speed on growth foliar feed with kelp every couple days.

Im trying to post pictures of my trees the same as yours and their growth every week but it wont let me, so trust me it works.

i got this as a tissue culture.
Ice Cream
it seemed to take forever when it was small,
it seemed to grow very slow, until one day...
then it took off, its still growing fast.

i had a couple of other plants from tissue culture that seemed to do the same thing.
they seem to start slow,, but once they get going...
they are fast growing and healthy plants.
(http://s3.postimg.cc/5ela9g8wv/icecre_bana.jpg) (http://postimg.cc/image/5ela9g8wv/)

this is from a neighbors tree.
he had cut it down and left it in the trash (LOL)
it was cut in 1/2, but, it bounced back nicely.
i guess i will find out at some point, if it gives fruit.

Love banana plants. Although I wish each mature specimen produced more than on bunch, it's always a bummer when you have to cut down a large plant because it's no longer productive.
The double mahoi banana gives you 2 to 3 bunches a plant

Viente Cohol is actually supposed to be fast to fruit, great for those with a short growing season.

João
Well this year was good to me. All my trees grow well... lets see how the winter will do. The only bad thing was two weeks ago, the strong winds broke my cherimoya a bit. She was producing for first time and i lost the first 4 fruits! But well... the tree wasn't lost.  :) Thank's for hasking!

Viente Cohol is actually supposed to be fast to fruit, great for those with a short growing season.

Veinte Cohol is indeed very very fast but in some places of Europe even with this fast cultivar it takes more than 1 season to get a flowering plant starting from a pup. At my place, the fastest one did take two years from pup to flowering plant, so it did need some way to overwinter. Unheated greenhouse is an option, but i have heard tales from people having it dead even in hot places of mediterreanean, when it was left in an unheated greenhouse. I think that maybe the high humidity united to constant low temperature could have been the issue? I'm used to bring all of my Veinte Cohol indoor, so i can't really tell how it does behave in cold humid environments, but if one has limited supply of this plant, i would suggest to treat it with special care. My bananas have withstand an absolute minimum of +5°C for few hours, but if you ask about it on bananas.org the guys there consider this already a considerable stretch.
It's a very promising banana overall for those with a colder environment, but as i said, is somehow different form the "plant and forget" Orinoco.

So I just received Banana plants 2 and 3 (for me) to go with Banana #1, my ~year old Dwarf Cavendish (http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=17639.msg222252#msg222252). These are tissue-culture plants from Green Earth (http://green2995.stores.yahoo.net/bananaplants.html). #2 is Ice Cream and #3 is Dwarf Red:

Minus the ~3" of soil, the plants are approximately 10" and 20" tall right now. They seem like they're in very good shape, and they were well packaged. There's no plastic pot around the soil, but that's not really a negative because they would need to be repotted right away anyway.

I'm going to count leaves on these guys :D

They're definitely going outside, but I haven't decided on pots vs. ground yet. My Dwarf Cavendish is in a $50 pot with $12 worth of soil, which is pretty expensive. There's a spot on the side of my house that gets full sun, and might be good for both of these, and would require only a few $ of soil and/or manure.

But they look really nice in a heavy clay pot, and then I don't have to make a final decision on where they'll go. I like preserving my flexibility, but $120 is a lot of money.

Yes it is... i spent a lot of money too in all banana plants i have... i see we have the same dilema. I'm thinking to let them in pots untill they get very big. Then i think it's better to put them in the ground... lets see how it will go.  ;)

Hi João
Never seen seeded bananas here in PT... where did you found those?
Are those more cold hardy than other banana varieties?

How are you? A neighbour of mine had them. They are outdoors and stand the weather as it comes. The fruits are small, triangular, very sweet with a few seeds. I will check with them, I would like to take a picture to show here, specially of the fruits.

I think I screwed up. I let these guys sit on my counter for 2 weeks before I had a chance to transplant them, but I finally decided to put them in the ground, at the side of my house:

They'll get plenty of sun, plus reflected light from the white wall behind it. I'm a little worried that the Ice Cream (on the left) might get too tall, but that would be a good problem to have. The Dwarf Red (right, between the two papayas) isn't supposed to get that big.

The problem is that I put them in the ground on Saturday, and then we had the windiest days of the year on Sunday and Monday.

The Ice Cream looks OK:

but The Dwarf Red fared very poorly  :( :

Is there any hope for my Red? Two of the leaves are almost ripped off, and the remaining leaf is burnt/dying. I'm surprised at that, since it wasn't hot at all on Saturday or Sunday or Monday.

Does a plant this size have any respectable corm underneath? Does it have any reserves to push out some new leaves? Or should I think about buying a replacement plant?  :(

Years ago I managed to fruit a 1000 finger banana in a container that I made by cutting a 55 gallon poly drum in half. Wasn't sure if it would work or not but it did, and I was rewarded with a lot of very tasty fruit.

It's alive!! The rest of those original leaves died off, but the plant has pushed out the beginnings of a new leaf:

C'mon, little banana! You can make it!

The Ice Cream is in similar shape, e.g. all the original leaves are dead, and it hasn't pushed out a new leaf yet, but that one seemed to be quite a bit more mature than the Dwarf Red, so I have hopes it will survive, too.

A little warmth would help. I suppose I shouldn't have tried planting these in November!

Thank you my friend! The weather we have this year is very challenging... too much rain and a bit colder weather. Very bad for the usual fruit trees. My banana trees seams to like all this rain but are growing more slower.  ;D

Hi Luis,
Have your banana produced yet? Was any mislabeled?
I would like to buy several banana pups but when buying from nursery I have the feeling they send you whatever they have in stock unless it has very prominent features since young.

Hello my friend. No they didn't fruit yet because due cold weather on winter they die back to the ground for two years. So last winter i dig them up and plant them in big pots. They are growing well now and i will let them on pots untill i can. Regarding banana plants to buy i can tell you some:

The problem with these is that it seem almost nobody in Europe has fruiting plants from these nurseries, so I can't find feedbacks.
I bought a Velutina 2 years ago and it's now 2 meter tall and not flowering(it's supposed to flower at 1.5 max, usually 1 meter).
Two raja puri bought from a single nursery looked totally different and with a different growing habit.
So I was looking for some confirmation. Many times the nursery is in good faith and the fault is who supplied them.
