My enthusiasm for this guy has gone down quite a bit with the last couple of shipments.  In-laws are growing the yellow one but it hasn't flowered yet.  She will look around for seeds.

Sorry to revive such an old thread but did you ever end up growing U.grandifolia? It looks like both the fruit and flower are quite beautiful!
This blog talks about growing it in Tailand:

They say this flower is as large as your palm and the fruit is sweet.

That is a fantastic looking, 'sweet!' fruit.

There just has to be a safe(r) yet easier way to break the bottleneck and get fruit tree material for propagation into the USA from abroad quicker.

This is a problem that should require the immediate attention of Plant Biologists/Doctors, the Department of Agriculture ...
'Virtue' should be taught, learned and propagated, in order to save others and oneself.

Dokmai Garden -  Tropical Botanical Garden in Chiang Mai, Thailand
Here is the article, they say it is "sweet with a flavour resembling apple, but much softer in texture."
Looks like it is the right time to collect seeds. I would like to buy some.

A grower I know of has grown a few types of Uvaria (grandifolia, rufum, concava I think) and has described them as 'okay'. I tried growing concava from seed, but didn't have any luck. Might try again with grandifolia. It's not too hard to come by here.

Excalibur Fruit Trees brought in grafted plants of these from Thailand in 2001 or 2002.  Last I saw them a year or so ago, they were in very large containers.  I saw the flowers, but not fruits.

Soon I'll have some seeds from Russia

I saw that Russian listing on ebay. Its a really impressive plant. I'm curious to see if they will be able to get it to fruit at F&S.

I didn't have a good experience with Thailandmrk. They don't seem to know how to properly pack seeds. They were packed in a box to prevent the risk of being crushed. +1 for them. But no packing medium used to keep the seeds fresh. This may work with seeds that store for some time. But it definitely does not work with recalcitrant seeds. I guess they just don't know? Because the packaging was nice. When I mentioned the issue, I never got an answer back. :/ They have ignored complaints from buyers multiple times based in reviews.  They have good reviews overall. But I think it may be because of non-recalcitrant seed orders, possibly for recalcitrant seed orders delivered to countries closer to Thailand?
