Hi everyone, I received my trees in the mail yesterday and most of the trees have the root knot nematode galls, but I’m still staying optimistic. One of my trees from the first shipment was covered in them and I suspected the nematodes, so took a picture before I planted and kept this tree on a separate tray from the others. It is one of the two that are doing the best for me so far. You can see on the tag, I noted the root nodules. Root knot nematodes are already in my home garden, so I have been dealing with them for years, I will share more in detail when I have time, how I garden with them. If you have not potted them already, I would recommend Fox Farm ocean forest for its high chitin content, it contains both crab and shrimp meal. Otherwise, you can use it as a mulch. Organic solutions worm castings is also a good option for mulching. The high chitin encourages chitin-eating microbes in the soil. The exoskeleton of the root knot nematodes contain chitin.
From now on, I will be posting my Yamgmei growing experiences on Simon’s thread.
Good luck everyone,
Janet
As a best practice, I prophylactically treated my trees with this product
When we received our trees in April 2021, I noticed what might have been RKN on the bare root trees so I looked under a microscope and dissected some of the galls and didn’t see any live nematodes.
Shortly after the shipment, I messed up and may have accidentally inoculated my soil with RKN thinking it was Frankia, still not sure but anyway, I used this product and waited about a month and then I used these beneficial nematodes
https://www.naturesgoodguys.com/products/5-million-live-beneficial-nematodes-sf-fungus-gnat-rootknot-gall-exterminator?variant=23323522563
As you can see by the pictures of my Yangmei roots, there is no sign of RKN.
It would be wise for all current and future Yangmei group buys to prophylactically treat their trees.
RKN thrives under certain conditions and some parts of Florida and California may have conditions where RKN can thrive. Under less than ideal conditions, RKN will not flourish and will not cause much of an issue but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Major thanks to Amy Bill and Nate for their work on this. Amy was a trooper at 11pm when she arrived. We soaked a roll of paper towel to put in with the plants here for a little more moisture and doused them with some RO water.
I have mine soaking in RO water, 74f bottom heat, around 60-70% RH with the humidifier and running weak LED light on them.
The biggest plants in the bucket are biqi, almost 3’ tall, half to 3/4 inch diameter
Great info everyone. Thank you. Whta soild media did you use JT?
Tomorrow I’m packing, cleaning out SUV & gassing up my vehicle. I plan to leave at 2 am. I will be going to my Bro-in-laws until Bill tells me status. I will keep all distributors updated.
If possible could I ask for gas funds for people in the group that I’m hauling for? I am unsure who has asked for their trees to be mailed. I appreciate your help.
It is going to take a least 10 hours on the way back, usually 8 hours on the way up.
I will most likely have to stay a couple days to wait for the inspection. I'm going to have to pay someone to haul my kids to school any extra days I have to stay if later than Friday. Hopefully all will be inspected by Friday so I can head right back.
Also the trees will be in damp moss & I will be driving to each distributors. The distributors will be passing them out. I will not be having a bunch of people digging thru your trees so we can try to keep them fresh as possible.
“There are about 28 people in the order list from SoCal( some individuals prefer to shipping, since they are not be available for pick up due to the work schedule). if everyone contributes $20-30, it will really help cover the gas fee. I will have at least 4 tanks of gas for a Ford Explorer.
Thanks for those who have helped so far. I have enough for the first tank! And Thank you Bill for everything..
Gas contributes can be sent to Fattygrl@hotmail.com (Paypal) or Venmo @Amy-Kinsey-8 (code 1987)
And questions please let me know. I believe we may have had some add ons..Bill will update me as we go along. Fingers crossed all goes smoothly!
Thanks again! Amy

Bill, K-Rimes, ManVFruit,
I'm new to forums. Sorry I couldn't see the replies by phone. I'm on computer now.
If Bill can sort boxes into LA and SoCa. I can probably help as a driver since I'm going straight back. I'm going to pick something up in that area anyway.
I can drive up the night before if I know an expected date. I'm retired so I'm flexible. I would only want to have the boxes handled by who ever does pick up. For example if K-Rimes meets me on route to pick up for LA. That way he can do a quick inventory of his group and the drop off is fast. I will not be sorting thru boxes to deliver by special care method. I believe all are in boxes with damp material. My goal would to be drop off quickly and keep moving.
So pick up from Bill, if they are boxed and ready it would be awesome. The boxes would go to K-Rimes along 101? and than continue south to meet ManVFruit on 5 and at that time I will take my trees and head home, will will inventory and people can pick up from him.
I know a couple people from the group and I'm part of the fig community normally so I know people get excited about their trees and want them asap and safe. I can be in contact with K-rimes & ManvFruit about my location and stops. I will give Bill, K-rimes and ManvFruit my phone number. I can't have a 100 people texting me while I'm driving. ManvFruit knows me & where I live so if some reason he couldn't pick up..I can give my address to others but I'm going to be tired from driving and prefer him to take the SoCal boxes. I want everything to stay in boxes so there is no chance of mix ups. If only a few people have access to the boxes it is easier.
If possible may I also ask for a delivery/drive fee. My husband already thinks I'm nuts for getting started in a new hobby. I have a large SUV and it will take a couple tanks of gas to go just one direct.
I also know that sometimes inspections can take time if not delivered on time. I want others to understand this. I would plan to update others thru there pickup source if they want me to drive. Let me know if this sounds reasonable.
thanks Amy, Chula Vista
When I picked them up the first order he had them already counted and packed separately into boxes. He then had me recount to double check and dumped moist bags of peat moss onto them. When I got home I had buckets of RO water to soak them into until everyone picked them up. Some were not able to pick up until the next day so I soaked them overnight in aerated water bucket along with my set of trees.
I let Bill know I would drive up if no one volunteered and can also drive to Santa Barbara for la and San Diego people.
Thank you Bill for all your work on this. There are a lot messages here orders changed multiple times.
This is a lot of work for you and it is very much appreciated.
This may go a long way to establishing these trees here in the US when we look back upon this in the future. Looking forward to seeing these trees soon!
This is what the Fruit Forum is all about. Good luck tallying it all up.
Folks,
We are ready to place a group order. Please make the payment to Zelle biaozhang@hotmail.com,
or to PayPal biaozhang@hotmail.com with the option Pay money to friend.
Please put your order number and email address, and area info. The area info is for us to organize the local pick up or shipping.
After you make the payment, please send me the email for my verification.
If you need to have USPS shipping, please also put the shipping address and phone number in the email.
Thanks, bill.
Replied to all the requests. Updated in the list, please verify your order. Thanks.
You could also plant inside a large pot with the bottom removed as an alternative to planting on a mound. In my heavy clay soil, I planted most my in ground trees on a mound about 8-9 years ago and over the course of those years gone by, the mound slowly dropped to almost ambient ground level.
Planting on mounds have been very beneficial in my situation. With your invasive root situation, you may consider using a tiller or a large shovel or saw to sever roots along your property line in order to give your trees a fighting chance to establish their roots.
If you just planted on a mound on top of Cedar roots, I would hazard to guess that the Cedar roots will quickly take over the mound.
Take into consideration that severing the Cedar roots could be seen as a type of root pruning and the Cedar trees could branch out more, after you cut them but this may give your trees enough time to send out roots.
You could do an annual root prune at your property line as your annual or semi annual maintenance of your yard.

Dear members,
Thank you all for your great support in the previous group order https://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=45912.msg447057. The trees were pulled from ground on 1/15/22, got shipped by air on 1/17/22,
and on 1/21/22 and 1/22/22, more than 50% trees were already at buyers' hand. It was truly an amazing journey for the Yangmei trees, we received lots of good feedback and new inquires.
This is an tentative plan to import another 500 Yangmei trees at same price $40 per tree with air freight deliver service. There will be following four varieties and in combination of there male trees.
Biqi(荸荠): Small fruits (10-20g) with small pits, black, juicy, sweet with aroma. Said to be tasty
Late Growing(晩稲): Small-medium fruits, matures in September, purple-black, delicate flesh, sweet and sour, juicy and fragrant.
Crystal(水晶): white surface, medium size(around 14 grams ), juice, fresh and sweet, slightly sour, top quality.
Dongkui(东魁): large (20-40g), dark red, excellent flavor.
Trees are 2 year old and at 1.5-2.5 ft tall, 1/4 - 3/8" diameter, bare-root (required by USDA APHIS).
Group order members in North California San Francisco Bay Area, and South California, can do local pick up after the plants arrive. For others, we can mail by UPS or USPS, shipping fee is expected to be paid by buyers.
Please add your tree request in this thread below, I will summarize. You do not have to pay first this time. When the group order is ready, I will let your how to make the payment.
Thanks elouicious, Janet and Scott!
Prospects are looking bright for Yangmei as common dooryard fruit trees in the near future.
I know a lot of people are highly discouraged from attempting to grow Yangmei because of high mortality rates with bare root trees and seedlings but I strongly believe that our trees will grow well for most people as long as their climate is suitable.
We are currently testing out some of my grafted trees at random locations without any special fertilizers or hormones and although the rate of growth is slower, they are growing fine and appear to be very healthy. The rate of growth from our grafted trees without special fertilizers and hormones is roughly the same growth rate as native M Californica or M Cerifera. Both of these species grow relatively fast.

All the shipments were done early in the morning.
Next time, if we decide to do this again, I will hire two assistants to help me. It's lots of work, experience gained.
Thank you everyone for the great support.
Thanks again to Bill for all the hard work.
Thanks Joseph picked them up from Bill.
I potted them up last night and made 2 graft of each. Hope some of them are survive.
