Some of my fruit
« on: August 09, 2014, 09:52:12 AM »
The drought this year has taken its toll:
Gamboge on mangosteens

Pulasans are ripening but not much flesh on them- all seed and skin

Jackfruit has some disease- causing splitting, probably Anthracnose

But not all bad news-
The dragonfruit likes it!

and the Soncoya too!  I was hoping these would be ripe in the next 9 days, but I don't think that will be the case :-(
But interesting thing- I hand pollinated them in the morning, using the pollen from the flowers that were on the ground.

I was wondering where they got the name for the popular, elevational medicine.......but then I saw that it was a typo.......Ciales, in central Puerto Rico has nothing to do with the medicine.  Nice selection of fruit, Gwen.....sorry they are giving you some cultural difficulties. Interesting to see how things are progressing in your part of the world.

The other fruits are great and I always look forward to your yearly updates on the soncoyas! I have not tasted one yet but I like the looks alone. Maybe I will be able to fruit mine in a couple more years or so......!

An unfortunate mixed bag of goodies, congrats on the DF and soncoya but very unfortunate with the mangosteen, jack and pulasan.

I am hoping other parts of PR are not having the same difficulties my yard is!

We may be in for disappointment with our up coming visit to PR.  I have heard through the grapevine that Sadhu, in western PR has not very much in fruit either in comparison to usual fruiting.

Well I wish you guys could look forward to more fruit but in a way I'm hoping that the island saves it until next year (or whenever I have the chance to make the trip again)!

Harry...probably just saying that so we don't ask to visit.  I think our selections will be just fine.  Gwenn...may be showing signs of gamboge but hopefully it will just be on the outside.  Don't give up!
