Title: Swingle
Post by: Bomand on May 17, 2019, 12:22:08 PM
Looking for 25 swingle seed or seedlings. Changing up rootocks experimentally. Some combinations in my environment have got to be faster growing than poncirus & FD.

I don't have any Swingle to offer you, but my 2 biggest and prettiest trees out of the 50 or so that I have, are on US852.  I am looking for seeds for them.  I am in zone 8a in west central Ga, and all my trees are in the ground.  I have many cultivars on different rootstocks in trial, and so far US852 looks the best. I don't know about productivity yet, as they have only been in ground for 2 years.  The two trees on US852 are at least twice as big, if not more, than any of my other trees.  Hope this helps.  BTW, I think Stan McKenzie has seeds for both.

I hate to order a quart of seed. But if that is what has to happen....then so be it.

I hear you & if I have to order a quart I will keep you appraised. I surley can not ues a whole quart. I only produce 50 to 100 trees since I can no longer sell.

I think that some nurseries propagate citrumelo rootstocks by rooting the cuttings.

I do that when I cleft graft, Just take the top I cut off & stick it in a container of dirt. Most root out.
