Papaya
« on: April 07, 2017, 12:31:23 AM »
I have a couple of papaya trees which have started bearing fruits.  These are dwarf variety.  I don't have any further information about them.  One particular tree is consistently bearing sweeter fruits but they are smaller than the other of the same variety.  My question is that if I plant seeds from this particular tree, would the resulting fruits be small or are there chances of them growing like other normal fruits?  Thank you.

anything from seed will be somewhat variable.
Though, there is certainly a greater risk of it being smaller fruit
IF the fruit is smaller because of genetics, which i am not convinced of.
its possible the fruit are smaller, because that plant is getting less water or nutrients or sun etc...
in which case, the progeny's fruit will be normal size.

Thanks for the explanation, Greenman.  I guess fruits are smaller due to plant getting less sun.  So, I hope the progeny's fruit planted elsewhere with optimum surrounding would give normal size fruits.  BTW, would you know why only this one is giving sweeter fruits than the others (all planted from the same fruit).  Other plants in the same soil all within 40-50 feet of each other.
