Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango Tree AirLayer Update
« on: October 14, 2023, 11:00:09 AM »
Hello Members,

It’s been almost 3 month , today I decided to remove the AirLayer.
Good amount of roots , I did loose some in the process, I trimmed the tree and placed it in an indirect sunlight location for insert.

Thanks Ed

Thanks Ed

Nishikawas were pretty good here as well but the peel had a lot of grit.  Like a LOT.  I chainsaws that one down and will top work with sharwil.

I've eaten a lot of avocados since this thread was started and for me sharwil is #1 undisputed.
Would the sharwil do good in South FL?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Air layering Mango Trees?
« on: September 22, 2023, 08:09:11 PM »
Hello Members,

I know the preferred method of propagation of mango trees is grafting.
Lately Iv been watching Hindu videos on air layering, I decided to try and today I saw a thick reddish root poking thru the plastic bag 👍🏼.

Any members experimented with this method ?

Is this a similar technique as the grave digger method except for the little flap left behind , great close up of the depth needed for this graft .

Thanks Jeff didn’t know that !
Will the grave digger graft work as well ?

Ed

August same time I grafted the other successful grafts .
Perhaps it may be that the Maha is not active ?

Hello Members,

I’m my yard I stated to graft onto OS, PP, and Francis Hargrave mango , with high success rate .
On my Mahachanok all Cleft grafts failed !

I did (3) grave digger grafts on it but to early to tell .

Are some varieties harder to graft than others ?

Thanks Ed

Thank you !

Can’t wait to retire ! , buying  mountain top hone in PR off the grid , no neighbors, HOA, nothing but nature ….

Better make that house hurricane proof

We have a house that’s been in the family for decades , still standing after all the hurricanes and earthquakes.
