Ambrosia beetles farming fungus inside the tree. Notice the multiple tiny holes. The little strands of spaghetti in the trunk is actually a fresh wound where the wood has been hollowed out from a tunnel where the fungus will be planted and harvested from within. Notice the infection in the one photo at the top of the tree? Most trees, even if they survive this attack, remain stunted for years. Fortunately, this tree is already fairly large, and stunting isn't an issue if I can find out how to rid it of these before more damage is done.
