I’ll bring more of the Yellows later this week. For anyone growing sugarcane, you may want to check out this thread on sugarcane juicers.

Sugarcane juice is so delicious, it’s amazing it comes from nature. Here’s what a glass of juice looks like:

Sugarcane gets sweeter with cold weather, it’s best in Winter. These two varieties I’m growing have Brix around 22-23%. It is too sweet to drink straight so you have to dilute it with ice or water.
I cut the sweetness by adding Calamansi or Kumquats and also diluting it 50% with ice. Citrus such as Calamansi, Kumquat, Lime or lemon help the juice retain color and freshness because the citric acid acts as an antioxidant and prevents or slows the oxidation process and slows down the juice from turning brown.
I like mix whatever is in season with my Sugarcane juice. This time of year, my pomegranates are ripening so I mix my freshly juiced pomegranates with the sugarcane juice.
For those that don’t have a sugarcane juicer, I highly recommend the Asian Black sugarcane because it is absolutely beautiful and the flesh is so soft, it’s easy to chew with your teeth. When doing research on sugarcane, I read that many people plant the Black Sugarcane in their front yard for good luck or to ward off evil spirits.

I’m so used to seeing no shipping to CA that it’s kind of refreshing to see some other place be on the list. Why India though?

Because they waste my time asking a million questions and never buy anything. Nothing against anyone personally. Just a few people ruined it for the other billion people in India.

Here’s a thread with pictures of different varieties of sugarcane.

One of the great advantages of San Diego Yellow sugarcane is the great color of the juice, even if you don’t peel the cane. I did use lemon or lime juice to prevent it from oxidizing but look st the beautiful yellow color.

I used some of simons juice to make margaritas that came out excellent. Home grown key lime, sugar cane juice, splash of water, and a shot of reposado.
You could also add passionfruit juice or other acidic fruit/citrus with it or add to a smoothie... I cant wait to get these established here.

Ready to plant after 1 week with bottom heat mat. The Asian Black seems less vigorous to start than the SD Yellow.
I just renewed the water and will wait 1 more week before planting though. Starting with more roots is better with our current outside temperature.
