Pot Size For Mango & Avocado Pot Grown Trees.

Hello Tff Folks;

I will Be Keeping most dwarf Mangos on Pots , due to the cold frost weather up in NE Florida , so that i can bring them in doors before frost gets them.

Also will keep some in a 12L x 7H x 7W Green House .
What is the ideal size for trees that will live out there lives in pots ?
Also how long before the soil in pots have to be changed ?

The size of the container depends on the tree size. 4ft tall avocado should be in a 12 to 18 gal. 4ft mango 10 to 18 gal. Changing container mix usually every 2 years.

Ed ------- Adam covered this is several posts.  He says pull the pot off the rootball and prune the circling roots off.  Can cut away the bottom 3 inches of the root ball.  Add fresh mix to take up same space and stick the thing back in the same pot.  Add fert and water.  Procedure best done when new growth starts in early spring.  Step up the pot at 3rd pruning.

When you get into 20 to 30 gal sizes this is tough but manageable.  I do this with bananas also.   Not too often cause they move fast thanks to the forums and my club.
