Looks like a feijoas species
Strawberry guava.
There are 2 varietyes of strawberry guava,Psidium Cattleyanum.One makes yellow fruit and its called lemon guava ,and the otther makes mauve fruit or red and its called strawberry guava.I grow both and they are fruiting heavy in the pot.

But appart from that yes they are really goodI have a friend who grows them, never got a chance to taste them however, but it looks to me like he has no issues with flies. I have some guava varieties growing in my yard, and they have never had fruit fly problems, so maybe it isn't an issue in my close vicinity... hopefully.
