I just went to papaya tree nursery yesterday. They have 2 sabara in the ground, about 12-15 ft tall, loaded with fruit.
The guy, Alex, really knows his stuff. He told me it is only a myth that jabo does not like alkaline water. He uses municipal water only to water all his trees. No soil acidifier or special fertilizer needed either. His Jabos bear fruit several times a year. Of course they are like 15 years old, but I have a 7 gallon and he said it should start bear fruit in 3 more years. The only special thing I notice is, his Jabos are surrounded by pots and pots of plants, so it is kind of creating a micro climate environment. Btw, it is located on Granada Hills which is really hot and dry.
