Nice!  I just bought a package of dried roselle from amazon.com to try the tea.  I enjoy the tea a lot.  Nice fruity flavor and no sugar needed.  I will be planting these next April.

I agree.  I have been planting roselle for several years, but got caught up last spring, and didn't plant any  :-\

Very easy to grow. One plant should be enough for a,family. Any of you have any tips on making the tea?

Took 12 cups of water to boiling, put in about 40 dried calyces in (seed pods already removed) and left to boil for about 10 minutes, let it cool, got impatient and added ice, and put it in the fridge. Nice dark red color, like cranberry juice.

i like the leaves raw, and the calyxes....just chop up and put in salad or nibble with miracle fruit!!

not sure how to make tea...i'm assuming you boil the calyxes?

u can just eat them!

but they are tart!

and be careful...the small capsule that encloses the seeds, (right beneath the edible part of the red calyx,) has little hairs that can stick in your gums like thorns if you eat them improperly.

just make sure to break off the parts of the calyx you want to eat....don't gnaw them right off...(like an idiot caveman...like me  :P )

u can chop them in salads, eat them straight up...or blend them into smoothies or something...they have a real nice twang....cranberry like...but much tastier than eating a raw cranberry...fresh roselle taste is like cranberry sauce, lemon and granny smith apple, with a texture of raw  cabbage.

I would say a few days to a week.  It's like pumpkin seeds, just have to wait until they are dry, not any specific time, that i know at least.  I also enjoy the leaves, but cranberry hibiscus is much tastier and more tender (for leaves, not calyxes)

I found these recipes

 Tea:

For a Quart of Iced Rosella Tea:

Place 16-18 calyces (seeds removed) in saucepan with 1 pint of water, bring to a boil. Boil for about 3 minutes until the water turns dark red Turn heat off and allow to set for an additional 3 minutes Pour into a quart jar, straining the calyces out Add sugar to taste (about 3-4 teaspoons) and stir until sugar dissolves Add Ice Cubes until jar is 3/4 full Check for flavor, if too strong, add more water and/or sugar

For a cup of Hot Herbal Rosella Tea:

Place 5-6 calyces (seeds removed) in saucepan with 1 cup of water, bring to a boil. Boil for about 3 minutes until the water turns dark red Turn heat off and allow to set for an additional 3 minutes Pour into a cup, straining the calyces out Add sugar to taste and stir until sugar dissolves Check for flavor, if too strong, add more water and/or sugar

Alternative for Hot Herbal Rosella Tea:

Place 5-6 calyces (seeds removed) in a mug or coffee cup In saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Pour boiling water into cup over calyces and allow to set for 3 minutes Add sugar to taste and stir until sugar dissolves Check for flavor, if too strong, add more water and/or sugar
