Tropical Fruit Discussion / No Mango Flowers Yet
« on: January 30, 2022, 04:09:11 PM »
Hello, I live in Davie FL, none of my mangoes have flowered yet. Pickering, peach cobbler, m4, orange sherbet or Maha Chanok. Anyone else in the area still waiting? Hoping this cold front gets the job done.

My vote would be Pickering - my tree is about 5 years old, this is it’s first year in the ground - it’s about 6 feet tall and it held 52 mangos this year - i started harvesting beginning of May - still have 30 + on tree-  No issues with diseases so far.

Holy moly I just realized I posted picture of my peach cobbler and not orange essence! And I don’t even own Orange essence either - I have an Orange Sherbet! This staying at home with 3 kids has got me going nuts! Well here’s a pic of the Orange Sherbet anyways! Sorry!!!

Hello giving this away - has it for about 1 year - don’t really like the fruit . Message me if your interested in picking up. I’m in Davie FL. I can leave it outside in front yard  to avoid any type of contact.

That’s my Pickering going off!  😬

Here’s  my Peach Cobbler, I put her in the ground Aug 2019, she was container grown for 5 years while we were renting . It’s her third year of flowering and first year holding fruit - not many only 2 - I’m sure next year will be better.

Thanks Oolie, I’m sorry I forgot to clarify that I have the tank that feeds to the pump - the previous  owner of house had it installed.  Ive just never added anything into it because I’m afraid I will damage my trees and garden beds which the past owner didn’t have. He just had grass , some palms and shrubs.

Does anyone use these products in their irrigation tank ?  I have well water and my sidewalks, patio, walls, trees are getting stained badly from the iron in well. Are these products safe for garden , fruit trees , kids? Thanks!

Hey guys thanks for your input - after talking to the gentlemen in homestead I decided to wait and do some more research . He told me the nuts he plants are from a true dwarf figi - he wouldn’t tell me where he gets them from and I understand - I guess. He also said that he doesn’t sell them for the coconuts - he  sells them entirely for landscaping which I thought was odd - when I asked them if they where sweet he said that he’s never tasted them before- I felt he was getting annoyed by me for asking so many questions  - anyhow I found a place in Davie that has these Dwarf Malaysians - they are a little more pricey the others .

Hello, I want to buy 2  “dwarf” coconut trees that are producing fruit . I found a guy who sells the Dwarf Figi. These are some pictures he sent me of some of the ones he has.  Does anyone know from looking at the pictures what varieties they are? Also I see some of the fronds with yellowing and black spots . Please help me , I want to buy good healthy dwarf coconuts! Thanks!

Hey thanks for catching my mistake - it’s a sugar belle. Glad to hear there are folks having success growing them. I will look into Kishu , it would be nice to extend season some. Thanks for your help!

Just added this beauty to my small but growing collection. I know citrus isn’t the smartest tree to plant in south Florida because of their disease issues - but apparently this variety is more tolerant . Anyone have any success with sugar belles in Florida? Chime in please. Thanks

Thanks! Any idea when fruits will form?

Not sure what I’m growing here, I threw some scraps a long time ago - but don’t remember what was in the mix. Anyone? Not sure if to remove - it’s starting to take over!
