Mango flowering in October
« on: October 10, 2018, 05:03:20 PM »
It appears that I have one branch from the whole tree flowering...seems kinda weird. I stopped fertilizing September 15. It is one of those Manila Seedlings from Home Depot. I am going to assume this has happened before to other people and would possibly know what is going on here.

What do you do with these fall blooms? Do you eventually cut them off? I had another Manila seedling flower around April/May of this year and produced mangos which I thought it was normal, but these are a little weird going into winter.

I think you want to leave them on there until around next June when its warm enough to get vegetative flushes again.  If you remove the blooms the tree will use more energy making more flowers.  Im not an expert though, maybe the other guys growing mangos in CA have better advice for you.

when the fruits got to thumb size (in December or January)  pick them off and make salad. The tree will have more energy for growing

I was getting blooms on my stone fruits (peaches) and pears last month when we were hitting over 100. what are these plants thinking.

Peach is a surprise.  Pears are probably normal.  I have 10 month old pear trees set fruit last month.  Mature apple trees are on round 2 of fruit for the year.

Found my answer.

Sounds like I should wait for average temps to be over 65 to pinch off.
