« on: January 27, 2016, 07:46:48 AM »
Hello, I'm looking to buy viable Guava seeds from trusted people, i'm trying to get more cultivars growing around my Country, i'm very interested in things like Hong Kong Pink, Malaysian Red, Ruby Supreme, Vietnamese Red etc, but feel free to post any seeds you may have, as i'm looking for lots of varieties.

Thanks in advance.

Do you know if it's a specific CV? I already have a bunch of Hawaiian's, unknown pinks, Mexican Cream, Indian white etc growing. I'm mostly trying to get the known CV's from overseas to start propagating them here and spread around, so unknown/wild CV's won't be much use for that purpose.

Do you have lemon or strawberry Guava? They're quite good, but out of season now, later on in summer they will be abundant and the strawberry variety are pretty common here in Florida. One of my lemon Guavas has surprisingly large fruit... a bit larger than a ping pong ball while the other has smaller fruits the size of large marbles.

Anyway, are there any quarantine restrictions or laws regarding / prohibiting importation of seeds coming into Australia?

PS. I looked for Psidium littorale (lemon guava) and Psidium cattleyanum (strawberry Guava) and they were not found, I guess you need a permit to  import?

So basically what you have is mostly from Daley's?http://www.daleysfruit.com.au/fruit%20pages/guava.htm

If you do, well we're in the same boat. I was just checking to see if you might want what I'm growing but we prob have the same things.

I have less than Daleys due to the Rust problem from NSW, so if you have China Pear, their Hawaiian Supreme etc, i'd REALLY love seeds of those, especially the China Pear.

i have 2 ttypes
buth are smaller and a bit seedy, but, to me, they are much better in flavor than the ones you mention.
one is a mexican cream (seedling i think?) the other is similar, but ha a bit of a lemon flavor also (very yellow skin)

Do you happen to know what variety the one is that tastes like lemon?

Yes Joshua, this is one i'm heavily interested in, is it just the "Pear" or the China Pear?

Either way i'm looking for both.

no, not sure
they sell the fruit at a mexican grocer here.
we have a huge latino community

they are soft and tasty, and a bit seedy, very much like my Mex cream.
maybe not quite as soft, and a more lemon flavor.
my guess is that its coming from a very small operation/grower.
no stickers etc...i think its psidium guava (plain guava)
and someone just found a seedling that taste good and planted it out.

i think guava seedlings produce fruit which is very close to the parent most of the time
with little variation, and once in a while someone finds a superior fruit
and starts to propagate it.
my guess is that there are hundreds, or thousands of these all over
especially in places like Mexico where its grown for food and planting by seed is just easier than grafting
especially in peoples yards.

My Mexican cream tree is from Mexico too.

i actually have 2 more types i hadnt mentioned.
1 is a red that tastes nice (first fruit was last week)
and a white thats a bit hard.
both from Home Despot (and they were mis-labeled)
neither come close to the Mexican cream types IMHO.

By red do you mean red fleshed inside?

Also still looking for fresh seeds of unique varieties.
