Truly Tropical Mango Run Coconut Cream
« on: June 08, 2019, 01:17:27 PM »
Hello Members,

Took a drive with the family to TT , To pick up some mangoes Specifically Coconut Cream .

I picked up most of the CC they had in a box , picked up some PPK , Southern Blush .
The place was packed , so we grabbed some mangoes and left , I don’t like crowds 😊.

The Cc are hard should be ready in a few days can’t wait to taste them !

The PPK where soft and ready very sweet a hint of lemon , good mango but I still rate my Pickering a much better tasting mango .

Southern Blush is a very good classic mango, supposed to get MBBS but im keeping my tree. Coconut cream lives up to the hype.

Chris at TT has been incredibly helpful to me over the last 9 years. Her place is always my first stop. With that said, I have noticed her PPKs often come yellow and taste just ok. Others with different fertilizer come orange and earn #2 spot, all time.  Just saying.

Sound's like low Potassium.

It's a delicate balance, too much Potassium to Calcium and you get internal breakdown. But without enough Potassium you don't get the characteristic color/sweetness.

Give it a few years, I'm sure their tasting their fruit and trying to improve it.

Just had my 1st coconut cream mango , I was  anxiously  Awaiting to taste the rich coconut taste that we love in Certain Mangoes, none of Up ( my family ) tasted a hint of Coconut 🤧, My Pickering blew that one away .

I hope the others I purchased have that intense coconut taste that folks have described .

The southern Blush was good had a classic mango taste .

I was completely underwhelmed by CC.  I taste more coconut in a Valencia Pride.  Having said that, it's an OK mango - it's just not what I had anticipated.

Before Imra took my tree I was able to get 4 fruits from it.
When I left it on the tree to turn yellow it was excellent.

I never picked it on the greener side so I don't know how that affects it, or it can simply be an off year

Never make judgment of mangos after one or two samples more like five or more from other trees as their are to many anomalies that can affect the taste.

I'm getting a really BIG coconut flavor from my Pickering mangos this year.  They're very consistent.  My other early mango, Angie, has a totally different flavor profile--like at the opposite end of the spectrum--so they're great to have ripening at the same time.  (Free samples to anyone who wants to taste them.)  All I'm missing is the citrus flavor of the PPK family.  And Sweet Tart (which I don't have) has another unique flavor.

CC is an awesome mango. Keep trying.

I've never had a great Sweet Tart, still waiting.

Like any other mango it can have off years. Mine so far have just been ok this year but the later ones will get better as it goes.

I have not had a bad CC this year yet.  But then again I tree ripen mine and that for sure may have an effect on flavor versus picked too green maybe? And a CC I had from Zills, Walter was photographing it and gave use the other half to try and it was probably one of the best CC I have ever had. But skin was a perfect yellow.

Same goes for Sweet tart.

It is a science to pick and ripen them for optimal flavor but once you get it figured out hold on to your socks.
I like them a little on the tart side (and have squirrels) so I pick them as soon as they start to turn yellow and ripen on the counter. Of course the longer you let them go the sweeter they are but still a punch in the mouth, without a doubt my favorite INDO/Chinese flavored mango.

Coconut Cream can definitely be variable by location and year.  That pretty much goes for most Mango though.  I also let them yellow on the tree.  The one I had this year (early ripened compare to the rest on my tree) was outstanding.  The dry weather for most of the spring may be a factor.

I always allow my coconut creams to begin ripening on the tree before I harvest them. So far, they have that nice virgin pina colada flavor.
