My Sunflower Pawpaw trees. They are big but no fruits yet...
@Luisport: Thanks for sharing the pictures! Very impressive!
To your comment regarding your not yet fruiting PawPaw s 'Sunflower': At this size the trees should have blossomed at least the bigger one. Is that so?
It could have the following reasons (without claim to completeness in the enumeration!) for the fact that due has had no fruits so far:
1) The trees have bloomed but the flowers have not been pollinated.Possible reasons:
a) No insects have been present that have pollinated -> Remedy: Manual pollination
b) Sunflower, despite its self-fertility, is not always a good fruit when the flowers are pollinated with its own pollen. -> Remedy: Plant further Asimina varieties (even a seedling is ok). I have noticed over the years that pollination with pollen of another variety brings better fruit set.
2) Variety is no Sunflower
Possible reason: Wrong declaration by nursery
Solution: Plant an additional Paw Paw, maybe from another source.
3) There were fruit sets, which either fell off after flowering or in the course of growing.Possible reasons
a) The Location is too dry -> So more watering should be done
b) temperatures has been too hot -> Artificial shading Installation can be a solution
4) The trees have not bloomed.Possible reason:
The rest period was too short, i.e. not enough cool temperatures and duration / effect of the cool temperature. Paw Paw needs cool temperatures between autumn and spring for a longer period of time, maximum zone 9.
