Impressive list, how much does it cost for each scion? Thx!
-
lots of varieties! I'm interested in the cost as well.
-
Me too.
-
does anyone know the smallest jackfruit variety there is? I know black gold is pretty small, any that I can grow in a greenhouse in MI?
-
George... If we could get budwood into OZ you would have me...... Regards...Mike
-

George doesn't charge money for those scions. It's kinda like droit du seigneur but with your first mango instead.

impressive list. PM sent. ;)

Great offer and price Don. Aparantly our season for grafting is almost over with night temps dipping below 60's.
I dont know about others, but here in Southern California I have had less than 5% success in grafting mid Sep onwards while my success rate on mangoes in July and Aug is over 90%. May be next year.
-
Hi George, will you have seeds of any types of jackfruit in the next month?
Kind regards.

Thanks George for the great selection we will put our order in June. Our take ratio starts to sinks faster than the titanic from September on.
-
Thanks Frank, I'm looking forward to it.
-
Thanks again for the scions George, it really helps to have people like you willing to ship scions to forum members. You have quite the collection!
Behlgarden and JF, I have a spare garage I use for grafting potted Mangos and my rate of success is still around 80-90% and I've found the most significant factors in success is health of the rootstock and quality of scions.

We've done hundreds of grafts at different time of the year. Ask Leo Manuel why your take % drops like heat seeking missile after August
-
Hello JF, I spoke with Leo about two weeks ago and he mentioned he does not get good results in August and September as you mentioned. I think it's the extreme heat that causes the issues. I avoid grafting outdoor Mango at this time as it is not uncommon to get 100+ degree days. When I do have to graft outdoors around September, I use a paper shade with holes poked in the paper.
George, I received the scions in excellent condition and just finished grafting. Thanks for the wonderful varieties!

-
What!? No Seacrest? No Guava?
Just kidding. I'm seriously impressed by the Zinc, Taralay, and Hodson.
You are a serious collector, Sir George.
-
Simon - It was my pleasure. I'm glad they arrived in good shape.
Dan - Believe it or not, I am expecting to pick up both Seacrest and Guava from Rob this week. It is insane what "just a few mango trees for my back yard" has turned into.

Simon, it's not the heat or where you graft it's the timing. Behl and I prefer to graft in season.
-
Wow George, you have been busy. Impressive collection. Did you fill in your pool to make room for more trees? ;)

Thanks for the information JF. I'm still learning a lot and appreciate all the experience you and Leo share. I may have gotten lucky because I move my potted mangos into the garage under 16 hours of light which may signal to the plants that it's still Spring.

I am all out of Kesar for the moment

I have received this question a dozen times via mail so I will address it on the thread:
All orders will be cut and shipped on a Monday to give the greatest chance of the scions not spending a wasted day in transit sitting in a postal warehouse (Sunday).
-
"If you have any mango that I don't...CONTACT ME!"
lol, I like your personal text!
Impressive collection!!!
I will be on the look out for some new mangoes for you!
-

Still require 2 scions per variety?
-
That is correct. The minimum per variety is 2.
-
All out of Pina Colada
-
Received my scions today and they were all in great shape. George also generously included
some extras. Thanks George!
-
You have seeds of all this mango varieties as well?
I would like to try growing some mango trees from seeds.
-
None of my mangos are currently fruiting so, unfortunately, no seeds are available.
-
Is it possible to get the scions to root?
I was successfull with it before with Fig cuttings. But have no idea if it would work with Mangoes too.

Bought a few scions from George about a month ago. Here's a picture of a sweet tart graft 16 days after graft :

I must say George is a great and generous seller.

Hi George. You seem to be the man I need. I would like to buy a few type of mango scions from you, but I want to make sure they will be the best for my climate. I just bought a farm in southern Brazil in zone 9B/10A. There are two 20-30' mango trees there that the seller said never produced any fruit for the time he owned it. I think part of the problem is Anthracnose as there is a lot of rain when the trees are flowering. I see signs of fungus on all the citrus as well. So this year, I will spray and may even try to protect some limbs from the heavy rain with shade cloth to see if that helps. I also want to try top working the tree with several varieties that will have the best chance for survival. Anthracnose resistant and split resistant, as the temp do briefly drop below 30F every now and then for very short periods. I was thinking of trying Pickering, Coconut Cream and Bailey's Marvel. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I am very new at this and it seems you are the one to talk to.

-
I have just completed my last order and am finally caught up after my Christmas sabbatical. Orders will now be processed the first Monday after they come in. Thank you to all who were patient as I caught up.
-
Do you have any Fruit Punch budwood available right now?
-
Will you have budwood avaible in March? It's currently not the best timing fo me to graft.
-
I currently have three prime pieces of Fruit Punch budwood and they are available first come, first serve.
Felipe, I will have budwood in March and would be happy to send some.
I will post an updated list after my next batch of acquisitions. Thanks for looking

Many of my trees should be flowering soon so, as of a couple of weeks from now, the availability will be severely limited for the next few months. Consequently, I will have a much smaller list of available budwood in the not too distano future. Additionally, If you have any special requests for budwood from a mango that I don't currently have, I'm always looking for an excuse to expand the collection so feel free to message me.
-
I just my shipment of scions in from George. They are beautiful! Look great, wrapped in Parafilm and clearly bagged and tagged.
Thanks George!!
-
Got an order from George yesterday received in perfect condition. Thank you George for sealing my scions I ship all scions the same way.
-
Thanks for the scions Dongeorgio, the scions you sent me were super healthy and most are flowering already. Here are a few updates.

Hello, I have a root stock that I wanted to make a "mango cocktail tree" via "top grafting", the host is nice and branchy. It just so happens that the plant is blooming (I am going to cut them off), can I graft while the root stock is blooming? Or will it kill the scions?
-
I'm glad to see the budwood arrived in great condition and simon is already halfway home! Congrats
As of the most recent batch of orders, I'm all out of Maha Chanok, Edgar and Guava and my Sweet Tart, Coconut Cream and Pim Sane Mun have begun flowering so they are out of the running as well.
As more trees begin flowering, they will be temporarily removed from the scion pool. If there is something you REALLY want, please message me and I will let you know how long of a window you have to still get budwood.
-
George, have you considered doing some grafting yourself?
Perhaps take special orders, since of your budwood represents cultivars that are not available anywhere in Florida.
Or maybe it's more work than you could recoup from the sales.
-
Dan,
I barely have the patience to graft for myself. This is more of a 'sell budwood to pay for my mango addiction' scenario as opposed to a source of income for me. I'm happy to ship out budwood but it would be too arduous to keep up with the constant grafting.

Dongeorgio, thanks a lot for the mango scion wood, they arrived as promised and with un-expected extra gifts, very nice of you thanks!
They all look nice and fresh, now I just hope my grafting doesn't ruin them all. Wish me luck! XE
-
Thank you George for the care you put in prepping and shipping the scions. Big thank you also for the many bonuses included.
-
Thank you as well George, for the nice and healthy scions. It took me two evenings to graft them all, but they're all done. ;D

Got mine, they were in great shape! Thanks!

I took a stroll through the garden this morning and just about everything is flowering. As such, I won't be shipping budwood until further notice. Let the fruiting BEGIN!!!!

To clarify, only mango scions are out of commission. Everything else is still up for grabs
-
Don, any idea when mango scion will be again avaible?
-
I have pushed a fair bit of new growth instead of fruit this season so PM me what you are interested in and I will tell you what I have up for grabs (if any). I can at very least offer a time table then.

Hi, George. Will you keep up with the new Zill introductions as they become available?

That can't be. Don Georgio is the the Mango King of Broward County!
-
Rest assured that my OCD will assure that I grab any mango tree that does not currently reside in my collection as it becomes available.
Mango King of Broward County . . . I like the sounds of that.

I bow to you, your Majesty.

George I'm a little overwhelmed and impressed by your list of jackfruit scions. I don't know where to start. If you could suggest top 5 on the list what would they be?
I Primarily like crunchy jackfruit. Obviously low lates is I big plus. I'm intrigued by the red varieties you are offering. Do they taste much different than the yellow?
Anyone else that has a suggestion please chime in!! Thanks!

Hey George,
I second Kona's request. I have a few seedlings and I would like to graft on 1-2 varieties on them. I am jakfruit newbie, I had some from our local international market and really enjoyed it! Had no idea what cultivar it was.
But I would like to know which ones you really like (a top 5 list)
And to make it a little more focused: If you had to start over and you had to choose the two varieties you can't live without, which ones are they?
Thanks!

I'm not George but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. ..
Personally, I dont recommend grafting multiple varieties onto one tree. With jackfruit, since you have separate male znd female "flowers" and its cruical to have male flowers at the same time as female, grafting two different varieties on the same tree diminishes the chances for full and proper pollination as different varieties can tend to have different flowering times. In addition, if they did flower at the same time you could run the risk of cross pollination which for a backyard grower looking to get specific fruit, not a good thing.
With that geing said, I would go with Red Morning, Excalibur Red, Bangkok Lemon, Crunchy Lemon and Mai 3.

For someone trying to create a new variety, nothing. For a newbie backyard grower, just trying to fruit a jackfruit in a marginal location, I would recommend sticking to the beat chance of pollination and creating a fruit if the named variety they purchased
-
Bsbullie. I really appreciate the top 5 list. This is the direction I'm needing. George what would your top 5 list be? Then I can make my mind up and order these bad boys.
-
I have not tried a great many of the jackfruit I currently have planted out. I purchased many of them on reputation. From what I have tried, I like:
Borneo Red
Red Morning
Bangkok Lemon
J-31
Golden Pillow
I have never tried but am excited about:
Canteloupe
Excalibur Red
Honey Gold
Lemon Gold
Leung Bang
Mai 3
Orange Crush
Red Morning
RS-22
Tangerine
Everything on my list except Black Gold and Golden Nugget are supposedly the crunchy types because those are my preference.

Thanks Rob! Thanks George!

But the fruit would still taste the same regardless of what type of jack pollinates the flower. Or are you just thinking it would be pollinated more fully by its own male flowers?

Not necessarily. There are xenic and metaxenic effects in many fruiting species, meaning that the genes of the pollen parent can have an influence on fruit development. An example familiar to some here would be annonas: pollen from different annona species can have significant effects on the size and quality of the fruit. I can't find any solid evidence whether or not thus occurs in jackfruit, but given how variable jackfruit are known to be, testing for some sort of xenic effect in jackfruit seems worthwhile in my book. http://hortsci.ashspublications.org/content/42/7/1534.full (http://hortsci.ashspublications.org/content/42/7/1534.full)

Hello all, I am still incredibly new to all of this. I have never grafted anything but I have plenty of time on my hands and would like to grow a few things not readily available here in my area of central Florida. I guess before I get scions, I need to grow rootstock. So I assuming a mango can only be grafted onto a mango rootstock, correct? Since I am currently not a big mango eater, where does one find lots of mango seeds at a low cost to start with? Once the seedlings have grown to a nice size, can any mango variety be grafted to it? Appreciate any advice and sorry if this is all old news for you guys.

Why not just buy some grafted trees to start if you really want some mango trees. Green's nursery is not that far from you and they sell graft mango trees from Zill HPP.
If you are looking to tinker with grafting, since you say you are not a mango eater, why not start with a fruit you like?
-
The most important reason is money. I have not been able to work for 6 years and do not have a steady income coming in, so I cannot afford to buy grafted fruit trees. If I could I would! Because I cannot work, I have a lot of time on my hands and I thought learning to graft would be interesting and might help get me outside of the house a little. I have been learning to root fig cuttings and wanted to start expanding my knowledge base.
-
It took me quite a while to get acceptable at grafting but it is rewarding when you get a graft to take.

I completely agree, super rewarding when you see a scion push.
Efletche, you can plant lots of mango seeds from fruit you eat and next year you will have plenty of rootstocks to graft onto. Dongeorgio has excellent scions. You can also graft onto newly emerging seedlings, search stone or double stone grafting.

Thank you all for your orders. I hope the scions catch and in a few years you are drowning in mangos.
I am about 2 weeks out on orders so anything that comes in from this point onward will be filled on Sept 9 or beyond.
-
We have a tropical storm hitting Florida this weekend so it may push orders out one week further. Please PM me with any questions. If your order is currently in and paid, you should get your scions within the next 2-3 weeks, depending on weather. All orders to come in from this point onward is looking at a 3-4 weeks out. Sorry for the delays but we had quite a set of orders again this year and we are trying to keep up with demand.
Regards,
George
-
Hello Folks,

After a HUGE push today, we caught up with our back orders. Everyone still queued will be shipped next week and we can even squeeze a couple more people into next weeks shipments. Thank you all for your continued patronage.

-
My mango scions arrived yesterday and they were super fresh! Couldn’t be happier! Thanks again Don Georgio!
-
We have stopped taking orders that will ship on Tuesday 9/7 after labor day.
We are now taking orders for the shipment going out on 9/13 on a first come, first serve basis.
Thank you all for the overwhelming response and we apologize that we can only do so many in a morning but we stress quality over quantity.
Happy grafting!
-
All orders for this week were cut and wrapped and about to be shipped. Be on the lookout for your PM with the tracking details.
-
By any chance, will you have Denise mango in the future?
I heard there are only 2 trees exist in Florida.
One with the original owner, Ms.Denise, one with Orlando gardener.
I am obsessed with melting texture fruit, so this is a must have mango!
-
And now Denise has been added to my list of must haves.
Let this serve as a reminder to everyone out there. If you have a variety of mango that I do not I WANT IT! I am willing to buy or trade for anything I don't have.
-
Nong Sang is another great green-eating mango variety from Thailand. It tastes as good or even better than Kiew Savoy.
-
Dongeorgio,
By any chance, will you have Giselle mango in the future?
Or might you have it already. Thanks.
-
I don't currently have it but it has been added to my list of mangos to hunt for.
-
I’ve been interested in trying to graft onto a couple trees I have but can’t decide on which. Any absolute favorites from what you have?

Hey George, thanks for providing this service! I am curious as to how the scions are prepared, do you cut petioles/let them drop/heal before sending? This has been an issue before when receiving scions via mail. Thanks.
-
I cut, wrap in parafilm and ship all in one morning. We've had success with this method thus far but always happy for suggestions to boost viability. Feel free to PM me.

$5 per scion with a 4 piece minimum per variety and a 10 piece minimum per order.
Thanks,

So $50 minimum order. And the price includes shipping charge?

No shipping is extra. Actually i am half an hour drive away but seller did not want pickup so i paid for the shipping. Plus i needed 2 each of many varieties which could not happen so ended up buying more than i needed. That was last year. None of my scions took, probably my own faulty technique or the timing of the graft. I did notice that most or all of the scions had sooty mold in them but that would not have caused them to fail. Can you please post pics of some of the scions that you are selling so that we get an idea of size and condition? It is a lot of scions and $$ so want to be sure before i put in an order again.
-
No problem, I'll post some pics on Monday when I'm cutting. Sorry I don't allow any pick up orders because this is my home and I don't know any of you. Please plan for $14 priority shipping even if you're my next door neighbor.
-
We have reached capacity for the ship date of 10/10. Now accepting orders for the ship date of Monday 10/17.

Thank you all for the overwhelming response once again. Only 2 remaining spots for 10/17 cut and ship date.

Ladies and Gents,
I have been doing less and less with regard to budwood over the past few seasons because the time spent has grown more valuable to me than the income received. I thank you all for your orders over the years but I am officially retiring. I would direct any of you to Squam at the link below. I have only interacted with him in my early years of collecting but I have never met someone more knowledgeable in this field.
https://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=46996.msg456934#msg456934 (https://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=46996.msg456934#msg456934)
Best of luck and may all of your grafts be successful.
-
hello Don,
thank you for all the work you've done over the years .
Unfortunately, squam doesn't make jackfruit.
i'm looking for some jackfruit budwood like Bangkok Lemon, Orange Crush, Red Morning.
can you recommend someone for jackfruit budwood?
or could you make one last sale?
i would really appreciate it.
Regards
-
Unfortunately I have had the lions share of my trees cut down so I only have 4 Jackfruit remaining. I have not dealt with anyone directly for jackfruit scions so I do not have someone I can refer you to. Hopefully someone will step up and fill this void.
Best of luck,
George

After a quick search, it seems someone on this thread has quite a few Jackfruit and is willing to sell scions.
Best of luck,
George

thank you very much George

I keep receiving orders so I think my announcement may have been buried in the thread. I will post it again below and please don't comment so it is the last thing in the thread:
Ladies and Gents,
I have been doing less and less with regard to budwood over the past few seasons because the time spent has grown too precious to me. I thank you all for your orders over the years, you have been fantastic to deal with and the reason I continued as long as I have. As a result of wanting to allocate that time to other pursuits, I am officially retiring from the hobby and will no longer be selling budwood. Anyone in need of budwood, I would direct you to Squam at the link below. I have only interacted with him in my early years of the hobby but I have never met a person more knowledgable in this field.
