Zill's Ambrosia Mango
« on: January 17, 2018, 03:23:03 AM »
I've found little info on Zill's Ambrosia Mango but the name is nonetheless eyecatching (like so many of Zill's releases!).  Does anyone have info or 1st hand experience with the fruit (taste, quality, season, color, size, etc.), the tree (compact, vigor of growth, etc.), or its resistance to disease (tree or fruit)?

I think this is a relatively new release, so there is probably not much information about grafted ones yet.
We'll probably start hearing more in the coming years.

Ambrosia seems to be a vigorous grower in California...on turpentine rootstock.   So, I'd imagine that it is very vigorous in Florida.
I made 3 scions from the top terminal that grew 1.5 feet in a 1 month timeframe and then it grew 4 more branches before going dormant for winter....and this was a 3 gallon tree.

The leaves smell piney...giving an indication that it will have piney fruit.

Zill's inventory sheet lists it as:
