Randhir Atemoya
« on: April 22, 2016, 11:13:06 PM »
I figure since budwood of this variety has been distributed we might ought get a thread going to have one good location for information on this variety. Besides a mention or two from JF, and that picture of the 5lb fruit, it seems like information on this variety is scant so far on the forum.

So to start out, I've got a few questions:

1) Is anyone else growing this variety?

2) How does it compare in taste and productivity to other atemoya varieties?

3) How many annona aficionados does it take to eat a 5lb atemoya?

Hey Dom,

I believe one of the atemoyas in this video is randhir.  Maybe the one at 5:36.  Amazing collections he has in OC.

...

That was a Minh atemoya. If you hand pollinate, it can be a pretty nice looking fruit like below. But it's not chewy like AP or Geffner.

Also, if you search JF's posts, you'll see that Randhir has been dethroned in size by what he rightly named as Jumbo African Pride which could go over 6 lbs. I believe JF has posted a photo of that one Jumbo AP fruit.

Thank you for the clarification.  I've contacted the person who posted the video back a few months ago because I was curious about the different varieties shown.  He mentioned one of the varieties on the video was randhir.  He directed me where to buy the plant but price wise was out of my reach.  Hopefully JF soon has randhir available for local pick up.

JF has started to propagate Randhir not so long ago, so I doubt anybody would now have a whole tree full of fruits like in the video.
However, at about 6:56 into the video, you see a tree with AP fruits. Maybe that's what it was referred to as Randhir?

Atemoya porn.  On second thought, not really porn, which would have shown cut up fruit and someone eating it.

This is still one of my favorite videos to watch hoping that my new grafts and small trees will grow up to become in the future.  I am assuming the first Atemoya is a Lisa variety in the video if anyone can verify?  I was also wondering how the trees are pruned so nicely and kept compact?  Perhaps they are trimmed twice a year once in April and again in July/August.  I am hoping to shape my trees in a similar manner, as they become trees instead of bushes.

Atemoya in our low land hot humid climate of south fl is always smaller ,if you can get one up 1lb it's good ,1.5lb to 2lb great ,so if 5 or 6lb fruit can average 2lb here that's awesome.

anona chalcid wasp how to deal with?

I bought a Mr.minh tree from Adam and it is doing very well here in Arkansas. In march i got sionwood from Frank,Randhir, Pink mammoth and Arka sahan. I grafted them on my Mr. Minh, they all took but they are staying small due to weather changes from high 70's to mid 60's. Hopefully weather get a little warmer soon.
