Tropical Fruit Discussion / Slugs
« on: April 16, 2024, 12:23:39 PM »
Anyone else battling slugs this spring in Socal? They've totally infested my container seedlings. They're on a table and the legs have tanglefoot. I've got a few slugs with beer traps. But, I'm losing the battle. They're eating all the new spring young leaves. Any ideas?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Cherimoyas and gophers
« on: October 29, 2022, 03:50:25 PM »
Has anyone ever had gophers attack Cherimoyas? I personally have not. But, at my last place, I started making gopher cages for everything I planted in the ground towards the end of living there. The cages did wonders for my dragon fruit. There would be gopher mounds right up against the cage, but they never got in. I also had three Cherimoya trees and the last one I planted, I put a gopher cage in, just cuz. But the gophers never made an appearance anywhere near the Cherimoyas. I was wondering if they don't mess with them since the roots, like the seeds, are toxic. Anyways, I'm about to put a Cherimoya in the ground at my new place and I'd rather not bother with the cage if I don't have to. Anybody have any input or experience with this?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Can I graft Avocado seedlings now in August?
« on: August 27, 2022, 03:29:44 PM »
I have a bunch of avocado seedlings that are looking great. Some are about 1/4" diameter. Somebody on here is offering avocado scions. Can I graft now in August, in San Diego?

I have 5 S-8 red dragon fruit cuttings for sale. $5 each for the two smaller ones. $10 each for the three bigger ones. Also, have two established, rooted, S-8 plants in 1g pots. $20 each for both of those. I rooted them about 3 years ago. They really need to be repotted or put in the ground. But, they are very healthy. They produce smaller fruits, but they are by far the best tasting dragon fruits I've ever had. Deep dark red colored flesh.

$5 each; about 6-8 in. long:

$10 each; about 12-14 in. long:

$20 each:

San Diego local pickup only. Clairemont Mesa.  I haven't figured out how to start safely shipping, yet. Sorry.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Coco mulch vs coir fiber on Annonas
« on: April 10, 2019, 12:21:42 PM »
There is a local urban nursery called City Nursery here in San Diego that says it has both coco mulch and coir fiber.  What is the difference?  I was thinking about putting one or both of these on my cherimoya trees that I am currently grafting a bunch of scions of other varieties and other annonas onto.  I'm creating sort of franken-annonas.  Would either of these be good to use as mulch or should I just use regular wood chips?  Has anyone from San Diego ever been to this nursery?
