That source in near me in Pomana, CA. That tree looks just like the Red Malaysian with the same round fruits.

Yes, I have purchased some things from them. They seem to be ok sellers. If the red malaysian fruits are shape like a pear and are big fruits, I would buy that tree, but I haven't seen anyone growing fruits like that.

I have the Red Malaysian guava from a local store (Home Depot), and the fruit doesn't look like your reference post. The fruit is round like the Malayasian Purple guava.

I think they are the same. I know of another person who has a large tree which fruits a lot, and his Malaysian guava tree has the same shape (round) as mine.

I have not seen any Malaysian type guave with fruits shaped like a pear. They have strong aroma, taste is good, not excellent, and the seeds are many and hard.

That's interesting, I will need to let my Tropic White tree fruit this year. I purchased these trees (Tropic White, Tropic Pink, Vietnamese White, Mexican Cream) to use as rootstock so I only let the Mexican Cream fruit before. This Tropic Pink tree is the larger of the trees I bought, and I didn't notice it had fruits until they got larger. This Tropic Pink grows well so I graft the other new varieties (Crystal, Seedless, Delores, Barbie) on to it.

ok, good to know. I did see one person who grows a large yellow (smooth skin) variety, and he gave me one fruit to try so I'll see how it is. It's about the size of a goose egg.

I have seeds of the yellow and red lilikoi, so I'll grow both of them and see how they do.

Just asking about the 3 types of lilikoi mentioned in the article. Some people call the P.laurifolia the Jamaican Lilikoi.

=>Jamaican Lillikoi a.k.a Water Lemon Passion fruit (Passiflora laurifolia)

I know that all four of my Mexican Cream trees are grafted, I can see the graft union, but they still may be using scion wood from a seedling tree so it may not be true to the variety name. I guess now I need to let all of my small trees I purchased hold a fruit so I can see if the fruits tastes good. I usually just buy the trees and graft over them. I hope my Delores Red guava from JF holds fruits soon so I can taste it. Also have a seedling tree of the orange flesh guava so I hope it holds the fruit this year. Last year it had flowers but dropped the small fruitlets.

I think I have all three types of the Lilikoi plants. Here's a good summary describing the three types.

If you are growing these passion fruits, can you comment on the taste and which one you like the best. I have not tasted any fruits except when I was in Hawaii many years ago and forgot what they taste like.

Here's the typical fruits on my smaller 5 gallon Mexican Cream trees. I purchased these trees 2 years ago. The shape is similar, but I didn't see any red/pink on the outside of the fruits. These photos are old photos from 2 years ago. Most of my trees in pots have been grafted over with other varieties.

It could be, I have 4 Mexican Cream trees I purchased, but this one was 3-4 years older than the recent trees I purchased. I could have made a label error and it could be a Mexican Cream. When my smaller trees has some fruits, I should be able to compare the fruit to these photos.

Here's the Betty #1 for comparison, it almost looks similar but this one have much more red blush and has larger fruits.

Betty #1 has larger fruits, and it tastes sweeter.

Ok, here's a few photos of the fruit.

The taste is good, not as good as the other unknown red splash (Betty #1) that I found and posted before.

Just wondering if anyone else is growing the Tropic Pink guava. I have a few trees from La Verne nursery and the fruit is not what I expected. I have 3-4 fruits (first fruits) on my tree and they fruit color is white/red blush and the inside flesh color is white.

I thought the Tropic Pink guava has red/pink flesh fruits. If you grow any of this variety and have pink colored flesh, can you post a photo of your fruit.

Here's my previous grafts of Gozp scionwood.

It has been almost one year since I grafted his Yellow Birula and Birula scion wood on my tree. The graft is over 6 ft tall now, I hope it has fruits this year, the size of the branch is large enough to hold the fruits.

His cuttings are fresh, and he has some good varieties.

I did notice my potted tree of Golden Grapefruit has some flowers open now. I will let it hold one fruit since it's still a small tree. All my other citrus sill have ripe fruits finishing up.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Bark Grafting Annonas
« on: February 15, 2024, 01:46:58 PM »
I'm a believer now. I have seen greenpasteur's grafted trees and they turn out excellent. I didn't think bark grafting would look good after a year or two, but his trees have grown at the graft union very clean. Some grafts on the trees I saw, I couldn't tell it was bark grafted when it healed. He is a master bark grafter.

Same here. that is why I never grafted it on my trees. I wonder if it is sweeter because they have it growing in Riverside, and I'm in Fullerton CA. Their location gets much warmer than my yard.

I have some photos now so I will post it soon.
