HLB In California Now Up to 9 Confirmed Cases Found
« on: August 11, 2015, 09:17:15 PM »
Five more cases of Huanglongbing, the deadly citrus disease for which there is no cure, have been confirmed in San Gabriel, Calif. The confirmation by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) brings to nine the total of HLB-positive trees discovered by state regulators since 2012. Eight of those were confirmed within the past month in San Gabriel. The first was a grafted lemon and pomelo tree in Hacienda Heights. Both locations are within about 15 miles of each other east of downtown Los Angeles.  California can only hope. - Millet

They put two sticky traps on some of my Citrus Trees last month. Hopefully in Orange County we will be clean. Don't want to loose any of my nine trees, including my 20 year old dwarf Oroblanco grapefruit which is constantly the most productive year after year, to HLB .

Don't put traps on your plants! You may lure the vectors actually closer to the plant. And any vector that won't find the traps will find your plant.
Put the traps around you plants, enough to intercept the vectors but in a way capable to lure them away from your plants!

You're thinking of pheromone traps.

I think those are sticky traps without any scent. They act on color alone, yellow which is attractive to insects.

If the bugs are in your tree, they won't see the traps outside it, but might just see one that's inside.

If an insect is outside the tree and would normally bypass it anyway, it won't see the trap that's inside your tree, but will see ones near the tree, throwing off the actual numbers that would actually be attracted by your tree species.

The county has been putting sticky traps on my citrus trees for years now in a attempt to control HLB. No positive results to date and I hope it stays that way as my Tango, Yosemite Gold and Golden Nugget mandarin trees are approaching five yerars in age and entering there productive stage.

You hitted the spot! I was thinking about those. They have been used for the red palm weevil here and i think they can do more ahrm than good if they have a bad positioning. But if this isn't the case then i'm willing to take my words back. :)

The traps that Johnny Eat Fruit has on his tree contains no poison at all, they are just sticky traps.  They are put on his tree by government officials. - Millet
