Since 1997 I always found Durian in November, except for a few years ago. Now Durian season appears to be all over the calendar. Check out the attached fruiting season table from the book Fruits of Sabah by Dr. W. W. W. Wong of the Department of Agriculture Sabah.

29 July 2015: Peak Durian Season in Sabah, Malaysia. Four or five species can be found in markets if you are lucky: Durio zibethinus (well-known durian), D. graveolens, D. oxleyanus, D. kutejensis, and D. testudinarum. Also lots of fine cempedak, jackfruit, tarap, and rambutan. The attached photos were taken in Tawau and Kota Kinabalu. That Jackfruit in Tawau was the Mother of All Jackfruit! The largest I have ever seen. We are going to Ranau, near Mt. Kinabalu, to fill our Hilux with The King this weekend! The twisted cempedak ("c" is pronounced as "ch" in Malaysia) is what I have always associated with durian cempedak. I thought - without really knowing - that the many aborted seeds and large size of the "biji" (arils) were because durian cempedak are jackfruit/cempedak hybrids. Anyway, I agree with the "whole lot of diversity".

Thank you for the Tenom Beauty graft tip! I will get from the Donggongon Tamu. We are now planting trees around our new house.

That Durian Cempedak looks almost like a small jackfruit, but the texture and flavor are distinctly cempedak. I believe Durian Cempedak are hybrids between jackfruit (Artocarpus  heterophyllus and cempedak (A. integer). DNA marker analyses can tell for sure. Here is the exact location of the fruit stand where I purchased the fruit: <5.962760 116.063850>

Here is the finest "Durian" Cempedak I have seen in my almost 17 years in Malaysia. And I got it in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, just a few weeks ago. Most fruit like this are only partially filled. This one was packed with large, intensely flavored, and sweet arils.
 (I hope this image uploads.)

mod edit: uploaded it for you

Locals call both the red and orange ones "Dalit". The red is definitely Durio graveolens, but I believe the larger orange one could be a D. zibethinus x D. graveolens hybrid. (DNA markers would help to distinguish species and hybrids.) That is my favorite type. It is so rich and flavorful. The last place I have seen Tenom Beauty was at a weekend outdoor market (Tamu) in the parking lot below a Giant supermarket, in the Kolombong section of Kota Kinabalu.

I noted the latitudes and longitudes of my favorite durian locales.
The few photos not taken in Sabah are noted.
