Citrus General Discussion / Re: Citrus Pollen Collecting
« on: March 24, 2024, 11:36:33 AM »
Zpusher, I haven't seen this video from the Fruitmentor, thank you both.

Since you have been helpful to me to learn how to collect the pollen from my citrus flowers, I will also offer you both (Perplexed) pollen from my flowers if you need it for your cross pollination.
I appreciate your offer but at the moment all I have are young seedlings that haven't forward yet. Thanks though!

Very interesting video, those pods look really nice and the community is very proud of the product they make. As I watched the video I kept thinking... I need to get seeds of that lol.

Sorry I thought HLB was not transferable through seed and wasn't part of the ban but your right seeds and bud wood are banned. Thanks anyway!

Hey guys was wondering if anyone has a source for Changsha Mandarin seeds or do you guys have any seeds you could sell me?

I also have to deal with the scorching hot north Texas summers. You'll be fine if you provide ample moisture and some shade when it gets really hot. You got it 👍

Remove from this section. Move it to the business/sales section of the TFF.
This is a troll post right? 😂

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: is this guava grafted?
« on: March 09, 2019, 01:13:10 PM »
It's my understanding that guavas are hard to graft. Most guavas being sold are air layers so the new growth should still be the same variety.

I have no knowledge on this just bumping this thread hopefully you get an answer.

Woah that sounds really promising! I'm really looking forward to these guys fruiting. Most guava sold in stores leave much to be desired, they aren't the sweet and highly aromatic fruits I had when I was younger. I find store bought guavas to be okay but not to the full potential of the fruit, as wtih so many other fruits..

but take into consideration that the Iron chelates also add lead and potentially other harmful elements to your soil.

Simon
Really? Never heard this before, couldn't find any scientific journals on this matter. You have any info on this?

It could be your pH is too high. If your pH is too high plant isn't able to take in nutrient so they look like they appear to to be deficient, I'd try to lower the pH first with chelated iron drench for now and maybe look for something that will bring the soil pH down in the long run.

Hi Carolyn, can you comment on the taste? Is it similar to common guava? I've got 3 plants that have grown to a pretty good size, I'm hoping they flower this year.

Pineislander- I'm slowly building up my guava collection and I've been trying to find cas! I tryed growing from seed but all the seedlings died. the description I find for the taste of this species is so interesting it motivates me to grow it. Have you found the plant to be finicky at all?

That's good to know that they'll grow in our zone without much fuss. Thank you so much!! I'll message you around September.
I'm slowly sourcing and collecting Hardy myrtaceae, I'm still looking for a couple Myrceugenia species but hopefully this spring I'll get one.

Solko, I've been looking for luma chequen. Too bad you don't have seeds. Are they easy to cultivate?

Is this the only cold Hardy myrtaceae you have? What kind of potting medium is being used?

Do you have a picture of the weeping guava?

Build compost piles on each site & the soil underneath will benefit. Organic matter will bring ph closer to neutral. The disturbance of turning the piles will eliminate weeds. In two years you should have several batches to work with.
18 day compost:

You might try using rings of fence wire to hold each pile together like this:

did this in a corner of my yard a few years ago here in North Texas where we have hard clay, to this day it's still nice and loose.  Avoid disturbing the soil until you plant.
