Chicken wire protecting tree seedlings
« on: June 25, 2020, 11:55:23 PM »
Just bought 5 spools of this thin metal wire net to cut it into small pieces and bend it into tubular shape for each seedling tree i have in the fields.
Here we call it ,,rabitz,, net but i couldnt find the naming for this in english language. For sure it is common and cheap ,found everywhere.
I hope it offers good protection against deer and rabbits while the trees are young.

Here in the USA both in Indiana and in Florida we always called that kind of wire 'chicken wire' and that's ever since I was a little kid when we lived on my grandfather's farm.

There might be other names for it but that's my initial reaction upon seeing your photo.

chickenwire, rabbits or squirrel can chew through it, but not very quickly.

Deer may try to plow it away with his hoof if the plant has a smell he likes.

It is good protection, much better than nothing.

It's good for keeping the lawn service guys from weedwacking the base of the tree.

I made these tubular tree guards from chicken wire and this is how they look on the tree.
