So, I have two last spots to plant something (I can't decide what), so I'm hoping to pick the best from the best of everyone yard lol! I live in So Cal and currently have Hawaiian Papayas, African Pride Atemoya, Hasya Sapodilla, Sweetheart Lychee, Kishu Tangerine, Li Jujube, Chocolate and Fuju Persimmons, "Cát" Mango, Hass Avocado, Seedless Guava, Longan, Wax Jambu, Grapefruit, Kumquat, and Lemons!! Is there any must - haves that I missed?
Where is cherimoya? That's one of world's best fruits, and you're in one of the few areas where it grows well. I'd have a grove of cherimoya trees.
My favorite go to fruits are my large collection of persimmon. I have a atemoya that might fruit this year, my red Jabo is pretty good too.
Cherimoya. Even if you prefer atemoya, having cherimoya will extend your fruit season.Sugar apple. Get a chewy one if you like.Loquat. Has small fruits now and ripens around April, before all the stone fruits and after the mandarins.Lemon. According to the lemon snobs:) in the citrus subforum, any meyer lemon should go to the chipper and replaced with a real one.Pomegranate if you're not right by the coast.White sapote. 'suebelle' is pretty low maintanence. Others are better but may need pruning to keep small.Banana?
This past week I ate silas wood sapodilla, red jaboticaba, cherry of the rio grande, indian jujube, and Jamaican cherry.Whenever I have a ripe fruit in my hand that I grew it is my favorite. I couldn't pick one fruit that is my favorite, I hope I never have tostop planting new trees. Its just math, there's always a way to squeeze another plant in. Good luck only planting 2 more trees. You do have a great assortment of trees. I would keep diversifying.
One of the better consistent irange trees would be a Cara Cara Navel. You should really get some of the better named and grafted cherimoya trees. If you go with a mango, it would be recommended it be on a California compatible rootstock. Sweet Tart on Manilla will do well for you.
Are there peach cultivars that would do well in San Diego?A tree-ripened peach can be SO much better than a store-bought one.
