Both mine are still progressing, I have stripped them and tip pruned so hoping to see some flower action this year as new leaves start to push this spring (fingers crossed).

Air layering works great in my experience, I hear grafting is difficult with guava though I’ve never tried. Then there is a situation where you wanna propagate from cutting because you may not have rootstock or the source of the tree is far away and it’s easier for source to send cuttings vs air layered rooted plant. A member here (orkine) gave me a cutting off his tree in sort of a “humidity dome” which was two Gatorade bottles fused together with duct tape. The cutting has rooted and it seemed like it took forever though many months to see a few roots and I’ve taken the top of the bottle off now and the few leaves have hardened off to the ambient humidity.

Hey Nate,

Are the scions already cut or are they cut day of shipping? Can it be grafted to canistel rootstock? Any pics of the fruit or backstory on where it originated?

I’m considering this but all I got is canistel rootstock, I’ve grafted canistel before using cuttings with a few leaves attached and trimmed and humidity dome bagged them.

Scions still available if interested, as far as compatibility I graft onto reticulata and soursop rootstocks, reason being the seeds for those are readily available vs sourcing Cherimoya seeds from Cali.

I wonder about that too. I have been waiting for a seedling to flower for more than ten years. Do you have mulchi in production?  So far only the dwarf mulchi has produced here.

I don’t have one in production, but a seedling about 1.5 ft tall. As an experiment I’m gonna try to approach graft a branch to red hybrid jaboticaba and see what happens 👍 will post the outcome either way.

Trees were defoliated to stimulate bud formation, scions will be cut and wrapped in parafilm. Scions will be pencil to 1/2 in thickness and 6in long.

If you are comfortable, please post a picture. Found this pdf interesting to learn that longan can also be infected by lychee erinose mite https://discover.pbcgov.org/coextension/agriculture/PDF/New%20Lychee%20Pest%20Mite%20in%20FL.pdf but it’s not erinose mite that’s on your skin the host is the lychee leaves, as far as scabies the host is the human.

It looks like it's going to be a good year.  I've got confirmed bloom on Banganpalli, Jehangir, Kesar, Jumbo Kesar, Julie, Dot, East Indian, Janardhan Pasand, USDA Himsagar, Neelam, Mahmood Vikarabad, #11, and Alumpur Baneshan.   I'm spraying the heck out of them this year cuz I'm tired of losing fruit to powdery mildew attacks.  Waiting for bloom on Borsha, Malda, Sindhri, Manohar, Sonpari, Panchadarakalasa, Dashiri and Royal Special.

Probably most interesting collection of mango trees, why did you decide on these varieties?

Collection is looking amazing, good to hear from you. The thin leaves one looks like salicifolia to me 🤷‍♂️

I’m glad you are growing the porcelia too that’s on my list, but I always seem to miss the seeds when they are around.
