Ginger lime seeds
« on: January 15, 2020, 09:19:19 PM »
7 Ginger lime seeds for $5 shipped US.

Described here at a taste testing at Gene Lesters:
"Ginger Lime: The name is pretty accurate –this guy is a lime with a gingery tasting peel.   Pretty darned good.  Most citrus leaves are not aromatic –kieffer lime leaves (aka lime leaves) are the notable exception—but ginger lime leaves are. They have a great gingery aroma.  We want to throw some ginger lime leaves into soups."

I hadn't heard of this before.  Does this lime come "true" from seed?  Any idea what species of lime it is?

Thanks,
John

Seeds have come up true for me. I've even grafted mature ginger lime scions on ginger lime seedings as they actually do grow well on their own roots

Very cool plant too bad I'm on FL or I'd hit you up. Either way anyone in FL with this citrus I'd surely like a go at this plant!
Trying to grow it all!

True to type from seed.
Crushed leaves smell like ginger.
Very aromatic and nice.
Seedy unedible fruit :)

That site does not seem to be working.  A warning appears that says it could be dangerous.

Now comment appears "site not found"

Are they "unedible" due to flavor or abundant seeds?

Not sure why this would be considered inedible. There are a good number of seeds but it's not entirely full of seeds like a kaffir lime or even a poncirus trifoliata fruit. The rind is somewhat thick but the fruit can be large enough that there's still enough flesh equivalent to a small lemon. The flesh tastes lemony but with a slight bitterness(like grapefruit) that some people don't even notice.

That fruit looks good.
My ginger limes have more seeds than mesocarp practically.

G. the ginger lime seeds I received,  have all germinated, and at this point have 5 leaves.  A bud stick is now also just starting to flush out leaves.

Finally got the ginger lime seeds to Belize and they are germinating and looking good with the first two leaves.
Thanks so much.
