Tropical Fruit Discussion / Multi-trunk avocado seedling
« on: August 20, 2019, 11:36:20 PM »
This is seedling has four trunks coming up. There is a normal looking seedling to the right. I’m curious to know how often this happens. Has anyone seen an avocado do this?

If I remember correctly he does go into it for a few minutes during one of the videos. I know that’s not helpful, cause each one is over an hour. There is one with a bunch or jars with dirts on the table in the back. Check that one out.

I’m also curious to hear other people’s experience with nursery bought avocados vs others methods of growing like seedling and grafting. Ive had several store bought ones go into decline after a few months of purchasing them. Is it bad soil like Gary says?

What were they growing in, and how much sun and water? My seedlings have done best starting in all shade then at about 6” tall gradually moving them to mostly shade, on the east side of the house (morning sun) and letting them get accustomed for a couple weeks before gradually increasing sunlight by moving them a little each time.

Cashews! that’s new and exciting let me know how that goes.

Since you want to plant them in the ground soon, I would start them in a smaller plastic pot. Probably 1 gallon and use a good growing medium, not just “potting soil” but others on this forum will have better and more specific advice on that.

The Gopher hawk

It's expensive but works well for me. Easy to set the trap, no digging. And easy to tell if it's been tripped. Again: no digging.

When the birds start picking at them.  :(

Haha so true. Those darn birds. But really, I will gently squeeze mine with two fingers, a soft loquat with a little give is properly ripe.

Wait until it ripens! But unless it has distinct attributes; like edible core or yellow or white meated flesh would be hard to tell. ;)

Which varieties have edible core? In Tahiti they grow them, they were smaller and with edible center, I would like a chance to grow some.
