« on: May 23, 2012, 11:59:43 AM »

Great photos! Would you say Mulgoba has the highest production this year?

Very slick.  I must find a way to import grafted trees from the canary islands.

Nice pictures.  Most of these pictured look more like 2 months behind us here in Florida.

Felipe, thanks for the pictures.  Nicely pruned trees.  Which is your favorite mango?

I love seeing "whole tree" photos. Thanks for sharing. Those trees look well maintained.

Null, I have no idea which one will be the most productive this year. I think they have about 90 cultivars and I just made a quick tour, I only made a 'few' pictures.

Future, I would rather consider importing budwood instead of whole plants. Importing plants can be a pain, risky and expensive.

Adiel, my favourite mango? I'm in love with indian and pakistani mangos: Alphonso, Sindhri, Chausa, Kesar... BUT I still have to get to try those new Zill cultivars ;)

BTW, they are developing new cultivars on the station. Pictures here:

Felipe, nice collection of Mangiferas.  What projects are they working on with these Mangireras?  Are they trying to develop cold-hardiness or other qualities for rootstock?

Thank You,
Adiel

Adiel, regarding mangiferas, as far as I know there are a few projects going on, but not concerning rootstocks, that chapter is closed. They found out many years ago, that the best rootstock for Canary Island are two local tupentine mangos, which perform very good.

On small scale they are trying to develop new cultivars, but I think the budged and efford on that is not very high. They are also always interested in importing and testing new cultivars. But from what I've heard, right now they are more interested in getting more manguifera species then mango cultivars. Mango species are for them interesting because of desease (fungus) ressistance, so maybe they could cross mango with other species. But that would be a long term thing...

Nice showup of pictures. You should consider, if you don't mind about copyright, to upload them on wikipedia. There's a lack of full sized quality picture of full developed tree for named varieties.

Copyright? No problem, as long as I see some €€€... LOL

That's a very good idea. First I would have to create an account on wiki, right?

Right, on wikimedia commons. I'm not an expert regarding the image upload, i'm pretty sure squam has more knowledge than me.
