Which Side Of This Yellow Dragon Fruit Cutting Should be Planted

Hi guys. This is my first time trying to grow a yellow dragon fruit cutting with spikes. But i don’t know which side should be planted? Any help would be appreciated

Looks like it is upside down in the picture to me. The tapered side on top should go in the dirt. Hopefully someone else will comment as well.

you could wait for it to sprout some roots, and then plant it based upon which end has the best root situation.

I agree, looks upside down.  Prune off an inch on both ends and let it redry out for a few days to scar up and then plant the skinny end down.  You want to get that yellow rotten part off the ends.

With something like that you can often lay it on its side, barely in the medium, take care of it and it will sprout from somewhere.

can i root it in water? i saw a youtube video where they rooted successfully in water

Lots of things can be rooted in water but I think it’s not that great of an idea.  Plants develop roots according to the medium they are in.  The roots developed in water are more brittle and will have to readapt when you take them out of the water.  Pitaya is an epiphet and does fine with lots of air, hardly needs much water to get started, depending.

I root my DF in a bucket with 1" of water.

Young roots are tender, but easy to plant without breaking any roots.
