More mango porn photos....

Here's 2 Lemon Meringue mangos given to me by my Indian friend Arun who lives nearby.  I have not tasted these yet so I will report back shortly

Here's what's on my kitchen counter today

Geez Noel, it would take me 2 week to eat all those mangos

I am picking this amount every few days. I eat like 3 or 4 per day. My Graham has not even started ripening yet and it has way over 100 mangos!

3 or 4 a day sounds about right...it's pretty easy to get mangoed out if you eat more than that in a few weeks.

just ate one lemon meringue mango..they are one of the best ever...Has anyone planted a commercial grove of these?? they seem extremely marketable....they are really one of the best fruits I've ever eaten.

Taste like God made the best ever slurpee flavor, and put it into an edible nugget that grows on trees, and is healthy to eat.

Adam, I agree, PPK is an outstanding mango...that is why you will be in awe of the Lemon Zest.

Alexi - The name Lemon Meringue is extremely fitting for the PPK.  It truly tastes like a cross between the lemon curd from a lemon meringue pie and a very creamy sweet mango.

Yep, LM is an incredible mango. Only drawback seems to be the small size.

small size don't bother me none.

just have to eat a few extras...maybe do some more work slicing and peeling fruits, and burn off those calories....

really is a superb mango...to bad when I got foreclosed in 2008, I had to give away my tree...and the guy I gave it to, planted it in a spot that froze...the tree was an exceptionally vigorous tree.

Would anyone else venture to say that this tree is a faster grower than most other mangoes, like V.P.?

Smaller is better. This way you don't get stuck having to put leftover mango in the refrigerator. Smaller is also less enticing to (human) fruit thieves. Lemon Meringue mango is thus less theft prone due to small fruit and that it is a green mango that turns yellow (so I understand) when ripe.....no reds and purples like the prettier mangoes

If I am cutting a mango, there are never leftovers  :) 8)

Yes, that is correct but to me that makes it more enticing when the entire fruit id a nice golden yellow as opposed to one that is green with red/pink/purple blusing on the shoulders.

I would say it is, for the most part, a fairly vigorous grower however not in the same ballpark as a VP.

If I remembered correctly, the season for ppk is June (mid season).

June/July...with the exact window varying depending on season's climate.

OK, so pretty close to the glenn season. I know my carries are like a month early this year, wasn't sure if the same thing was happening with the ppk.

PPK should be a little later than Glenn.

Your Carries are early ?  When did you start harvesting ?

Excalibur's are all behind...not one variety has come in as of June 2.  Still waiting on the Edward, Glenn and Carrie to get tp the picking stage.

I think I started harvesting ripe carries about 2 weeks ago. The first few were watered down, but the rest have been magnificent. The resident raccoon seems to prefer the carrie and julie to the other mangoes in the yard. He'll eat the carries green and pass over the fully ripened glenns on the ground :-).

Excalibur had a BUMPER crop of carries when I was there a couple of weeks ago. It looked like the tree barfed up a bunch of green balls everywhere.

yup, the tree is loaded but not ready to harvest yet.  Glenns are loaded also but same story, nothing ripening yet.  The Duncan is weighed down with fruit but same story as all the others.  I have a feeling they are all going to come in at once...mango overload.

Truly Tropical, 2750 Seacrest Blvd, Delray Beach, has about a dozen heavy-bearing 'Po Pyu Kalai'.  They have been ripening for about a month, with a lot more to go.  The fruits go from green to color break to fully orange-yellow to falling to the ground in about 1 1/2 days!  They sell well.

Current fruit sale hours are
Wednesday 4:30-5:30;
Saturday      9:00-12:00;
Sunday        11:00-12:00.

Other great varieties currently on in good amounts: 'Cogshall' (pronounced "Cogs Hall"), 'Pim Seng Mun', 'Glenn', and 'Carrie'.

I've been eating PPK's this season just to give it another chance.....and still don't get it. I mean, it tastes decent but nothing exciting. I'm the odd man out on this one.

I didn't like the PPK the first time I tried it but 3 years ago I tried it again at Truly Tropical and really liked it. I got a tree from Excalibur a couple of years ago, it is now about 10 feet tall and carrying around 20 fruit. I am attaching photo of my tree that I took on May 11. The gentleman in the photo is Maurice Kong of the Miami RFC who introduced the PPK into Florida. Maurice and Chris Rollins of the Fruit & Spice Park were touring my yard before Chris spoke at the Palm Beach RFC monthly meeting.

"The LM these fruits came from is only 8 ft high and 5 feet around.  It had over a dozen mangos but it is still too young to truly judge the growth characteristics.

Thanks FGM...if you have an opportunity someday to take a photo...would love to see it.

LarryG...thanks for that picture! Can't wait to try LM (PPK) one day...but it will be at least 3 years by the looks of my very small tree. If anyone has an extra one to share please LMK,lol...

I ate a tree ripened PPK from my in-laws tree this afternoon.  The tree is about 4 years old and about 10 feet tall.  It is currently holding about 20 mango's.

This was the first PPK I have tasted. As most have said here, it is an very, very good mango. Better than I had even expected, I have to add it to my list of favorites  ;D
