Looking for Manzano (Apple) Banana plant Broward County
« on: October 14, 2012, 12:58:52 PM »
Most of the places/ people I've contacted don't have anymore left or don't sell that type.
Would love to buy one as it's my favorite.
Thanks.

This one is confusing. Do you want Dwarf Brazilian (called apple banana by Hawaiians)? D. Brazilian is common in supermarkets as the short stubby but delicious bananas.  Manzano apple Banana is apparently a different cultivar altogether. It's confusing...  I would check out Bananas.org.

If you didn't already, check with Going Bananas in Homestead (I know it's not Broward county, but it is close).

http://www.going-bananas.com/bananavarietycatalog.htm

I stopped by and got my Manzano (and others) from them a year ago. I also see Don at alot of the garden/plant shows around, so I would think they have a pretty good supply.

DM
I can get you a pup from mine if you want to do that.

I can also offer one. I'm located in Cutler Bay, about half way between Miami and Homestead if that's not too far for you.

I grew the Manzano banana.  It unfortuantely died.  I think it is highly susceptible to Panama Disease and  Sigatoka. Not a good long term planting for Western Broward County, anyway.  But it is a great banana.

I know Pine Island used to carry it. They're out?
