Palm Beach RFC plant sale April 20, 2013
« on: March 03, 2013, 10:06:22 AM »
@ South Florida Fairgrounds.

I went last year. I'll go to this one too. Pretty good selection.
I'm probably going to need a wagon for all the stuff I'll buy.

Anybody else go to these sales?

I've usually gone to help sell for the past 3-4 years.

Excalibur brings around half of the trees and the other half is supplied by a bunch of other people. So if there is anything you want in particular, just post it here and maybe Rob (BsBullie) can make sure Excalibur brings the certain variety or species you are looking for. Or, you could just visit Excalibur Mon-Sat 8am-4pm. They are about 5-10 miles south of the Fairgrounds.

If I remember correctly, the trees are about $5 cheaper at the sale than at Excalibur.

Pricing at the sale is very competitive, I bought a nice 3 gallon Kohala Longan for $15.  The following year I bought two 3 gallon Garcinia Intermedia for $10 each.  The trees sold by Excalibur and others take quite a beating though, people pick leaves, break branches, and pull plants from pots "inspecting".  I assume what Rob is saying is that Excalibur is sending trees of $5 less value to the show.  There are plenty of good buys at the sale, and its definitely worth going if you have the time.   A percentage of the proceeds go directly to the fruit council, and a large portion of that goes toward the cost of the Agriplex for the two day show.  The sale is great for our cause, it creates lots of new interest in tropical fruit growing.
