Discovered these 3 unripe fruits the other day after moving my tree into my sun porch:

I'm guessing this is the actual shape of the fruit.
I've grown a Finger Lime/ Key Lime Cross and the 3 year old plant has finally ripened it's first fruit.
Since it only set the one fruit I'm not sure if this is representative of how they will all look.

This particular fruit is about 1 1/2 inches in length.
The caviar is more elongated than my finger lime.

Wow..
looks really good. is there any seeds in the fruit?
-
Not a seed in the whole thing.

Kevin this is very cool. Is this your own creation?
-
Me and a bumble bee.
I was planting key lime seeds and noticed some of the resulting plants had finger lime leaf characteristics.
All of my citrus plants were grouped in the same general area... so there must have been some cross pollination going on.
I have five more plants from a second batch that should be blooming this spring.
No telling what I will get.

Very nice Kevin, what you going to name it? It's your baby after all 8)

I'll have to give that some thought...
Any suggestions?

very nice! how do you pollinate lime?
-
How about Pinkey lime? Or pinkey finger?
-
Bumble Bees took care of the pollination. My Finger Lime tree was situated near my Key Limes.
The seeds came from Key Limes I harvested a few years ago. I planted the seeds and 95% were typical Key Lime... but a few had Finger Lime leaf characteristics (much smaller leaves ), so I separated the crosses and grew them up. Kept my fingers crossed they would carry the caviar characteristic. The first one did. I have 6 more that are a year younger and hopefully they will too.

Can you post a picture of the tree and leaves?

Those are very cool. :)

That’s awesome :)
There have been a couple of finger lime crosses here. Finger limes are ok, but I think some of the crosses are/will be next level. Don’t think any of them involved key lime, yours look very different.
Here’s some info

Very neat.
I’ve read that finger lime thrives in the presence of citrus greening. I wonder if crosses display similiar resistance. From 5 large citrus trees I’m down to my last 17 year old calamondin, but it too is slowly succumbing to disease. Too many people in my neighborhood with old and ailing citrus trees they won’t cut down means citrus is out of the game for me.

I'll take some pix of the tree and leaves tomorrow and post them.

Hmm... that tree looks indistinguishable from a standard finger lime. Somehow I was expecting something intermediate between the two. Looks really healthy though.
-
It seems to be bullet-proof as far as that goes.

Congratulations, Kevin! That’s amazing! It’s a very very cool looking fruit! What was the taste like?
-
Would seriously be interested in some scions from that. They look great!

The Aussie citrus seem to cross very easy with other citrus. This is my Faustrime, thought to be a finger lime crossed with a limequat.

The caviar was sweeter, more tender and more elongated than the parent finger lime.
Was also very ripe. Notice how yellow the skin was.
