Cara cara orange pest?
« on: January 30, 2013, 04:21:59 PM »
Hello, I seem to have a pest on my cara cara orange. There are little droplets of sap on the plant, and I can see a few small, flat, oval shaped brown patches on the tree's little trunk which I suspect may be the insects? I strongly prefer to control them naturally and would greatly appreciate any suggestions natural or otherwise. Would Diatemaceous Earth work? I'd happily use that.

Photo of what you suspect to be the insect would really help!

Sounds like scale insects.  Not sure how well DE would work.  Oil sprays or other pesticides ought to work.  Scale are often farmed by ants, so you may need to address the ants, too.
