Tropical Fruit Discussion / Please help me ID this tree
« on: January 11, 2018, 06:07:21 PM »
Hey guys I realize this is a tropical fruit forum, just wanted to see if someone can help me ID this tree, I’m pretty sure it’s not a fruiting tree. Thanks!!

Hi William, I bought the tree about 1 1/2 years ago and I would estimate the tree was probably 2 years old when I bought it. So figure 3 1/2 - 4 yrs. No flowers or fruits since I've had it - all the moving around and pugging hasn't helped - hopefully next year.

Yes the Alano has been pushing lots of new growth - the mangos have as well - but I've been pruning and shaping  them pretty heavily to get them to bush out and have an open center canopy at the same time.

Thanks for the comments guys! I really do enjoy watching these babies grow. Yea I think they still have some room to grow in the current containers- hopefully I can get 1 more year in them.  As for the soil - I used an organic soil sold by my local nursery ( drains really well) and mixed in azomite.

Thanks Sayyid! This was the Alano Jan 13, 2017

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Update Peach Cobbler, Maha, Pickering, Alano
« on: October 22, 2017, 06:55:35 PM »
Hi everyone, well it's been close to a year and wanted to give you guys an update on some of my trees. So about a year ago I dugout some of my trees (that I couldn't leave behind!)I had planted about 1 1/2 years before we moved unexpectedly . All my mangos were pugged when I bought them originally,  after seeing puglvr beautiful trees I wanted to give it a shot- I believe they will be much more manageable in the future. My alano sapodilla was pugged a year ago , I left it with no branches or leaves. None of my trees have fruited yet 😔, I'm sure it's because of all the moving around but anyways here are some pics. We are currently renting that's why I still have them in 25gal pots. We plan on renting for 1 more year before buying again. Not sure if to upsize to 45 gal or just keep them in there 1 more year. Thanks.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Help with Avocado ID
« on: September 14, 2017, 10:14:16 PM »
Hi ya'll, I visited a local nursery today- they had a bunch of beautiful grafted avocado trees - I would guess 2-3 years old.  I was considering buying one but the new owner of the nursery doesn't know the variety. Catalina maybe? Whatcha guys think? Thanks!

My neighbors mango tree came down about 30 minutes ago. Not sure the variety- but was very tall and had a very dense canopy. Luckily it didn't strike the house. Prayers for all in the path of this monster.

Yes it happened around October last year- I believe that's area where limbs broke off, I didn't put seal. I was concerned because it looks a little deep.  I guess I'll let nature do its thing. Thanks y'all!

Hello, last year when we sold our home , my Alano sapodilla hurt a few branchs when we transferred her to our new place. Is there anything I can do to to help her out? Or do I just leave alone? I'm worried about future issues that may arise if I don't do anything. Thanks!

Cotton Candy it is! May keep Rosi in a container for a couple of years to see if she puts out early crop. Thanks for your helpful opinions  guys!

Thanks for the feedback guys! And for your reasoning Rob. The only one I have tasted from the varieties that I have is Lemon Zest from Benders last year and I really enjoyed it!

Bajajohn you nailed it! I just googled several pics or barklice and they look just like them.  I read briefly that they are harmless beneficial bugs! Thanks everyone!

Hi Carolyn, I looked up pictures of squash bug lymphs and I don't think they are those either. Well, I was looking for them again today and they were gone, really weird. Here's a close up from yesterday's pic.

Thanks Rob. They are bunched up - they have black and yellow spider looking bodies with antennas. Never seen these guys before. I can't seem to add close up image in my reply.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Newbie - Bug ID and bark peeling on my Jabo
« on: January 31, 2017, 04:15:13 PM »
Hi to all, first time poster - long time follower. I have a Jaboticaba that is about 4-5 years old. It's currently in container- the reason being that we sold our home in November  and dug out a bunch of my trees that I had in ground for about 2 years. I couldn't leave my trees behind! They are all still currently in containers and looks like they all took the move rather well. Over the past week or so I noticed the bark was peeling more than I ever remember seeing, and today I noticed a bunch of weird looking critters on one of its branches. Here are some pics. Thanks - love what you guys do here and glad to officially be a member!

- Alex
