Pineapples on my patio
« on: July 08, 2015, 08:03:50 AM »
My pineapples are bigger this year. I wish I had more than 4 fruits and can't wait when they are ready to be harvested.

How long from planting to fruit? And do you fertilize with anything?

oh your pineapples are beautiful!  I'm jelly.  I've been growing one from a top for a couple of years outside and now it's starting to bloom. I was really surprised, I didn't think it would fruit outdoors here!  My pineapple plant isn't nearly as nice as yours are though!  ;D

Look in this thread:

The best way to fertilize (my opinion) is foliar spraying - less fertilizer waste.

From 1 to 2 years. I had 1year old that gave me the fruit ones. I do fertilize them with citrus fertilizer but not as often that I should.

Thanks.  ;D I keep mine in pots and move them to the unheated garage when it gets too cold for them. Then I just leave them there till it's safe to bring them outside. I even experimented this year and left a couple outside on the back porch. Then I noticed that these in garage started to flower and the outside ones didn't. So I brought them in garage too and in a few weeks they gave me flowers.  :o

Good tips!  I Love your variegated pineapples. I am a bromeliad addict... tho they are not the most common plant in California, they grow well here! I never thought pineapples would do here.

I am not sure that is guaranteed to be that variety.   Dont know about your area but I don't see many pineapples in the stores here from Hawaii.

Haven't tasted it yet!  But I saw a plant with fruit on it, and it was really cool looking, totally different than the other ornamental variegated pineapples I've seen before.
