Lychee crop for 2013
« on: November 21, 2012, 03:06:10 PM »
With all this early chill in the air,I would suspect a banner year lychee crop with as poor as last years was, any thoughts?? At least I am hoping!

Don't think we're quite there yet, but we're heading in a good direction.

If they had a rest last season then they should all be bursting to pump out a bumper crop next season, so long as you get that tiny bit of chill and the rain doesnt spoil their flower fest.

I sure hope so. I wasn't able to buy any last season. Hoping to load up this year.

It looks like the predicted El Nino for this winter is not developing as expected.
http://phys.org/news/2012-11-el-nino.html
There is an article in the December issue of Scientific American that discusses the odd winter weather that has occurred for the last few years in the northern hemisphere.

In anticipation of the 2013 crop, I tried the hard prune in mid-July technique recommended by Lychees Online.  I turned down the GH temps at night to 52F and will hold that nighttime temp through mid-December.

I have not had a crop to speak of in about 3 years...we'll see!

Same here , poor crop in 2012 . Not related but I noticed an incredible amount of flowers on the Canistel right now .
