Both arctic Glo and Indian Free nectarine have red in their flesh similar to that and you should be able to get them here in the US.

I mentioned in my original post the Artic series does have some read streaks but again its not the same.

Indian Free is a peach, not a nectarine. Unfortunately 1. I don't like peach fuzz 2. Indian free needs way more chill hours than i get.

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Red Fleshed Nectarines
« on: April 30, 2017, 11:03:44 AM »
I was wondering if anyone knew of any varieties that exist that you can actually get and grow in  the US?
I know of the Red Raspberry you can sometimes get from Raintree.

There is a commercial variety from France that sounds amazing called the Nectavigne

But other than these two varieties I can't find much else.
Also I do know that some of the Zaiger Artic series have some red streaks but thats not quite the same.

Is this just a quality that people don't care about so no one breeds for it?

What is the timeline for this?

And how do we know these seeds would actually make it through customs?

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Can citrus be grown in Austin, TX?

Another thing lots of people forget is kumquats.  My Meiwa was left out unprotected this winter in the same cold snap that killed my two in ground citrus and it didn't even get leaf burn.

Oh I know they were.  All were from Brazos who unless it says "dwarf"  means most likely Carrizo.

Make sure your friend buys stuff that is labeled as "dwarf" meaning its on flying dragon rootstock.

My ROT orange planted next to the house and wrapped up died when we got to 22 for two nights depsite being called a "hardy orange"
So did my Ponkan Tangerine.

My persian lime on Flying dragon on dwarf rootstock?
I was aggrevated with it so i purposely left it  out back uncovered.  All it did was defoliate and about 3-4" of branches got burned. I was totally shocked.  But thats how much of a difference flying dragon makes.

I would think blood orange would also be a good candidate for aromaticness.

How long before you track down budwood to add to your Frankencado tree?

14
What kind of guavas are you grafting and where in TX are you?

I have a small barbie Pink i airlayered last year that is about a foot tall with 2 or 3 graftable branches.

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Arctic Frost Satsuma experience
« on: April 06, 2017, 05:43:40 PM »
Lots of people here in central texas bought arctic frost satsumas and orange frost oranges the last few years.

most of them got killed even with protection during the January cold snap when it got down to 20 or under for 2 nights.

looks like a helluva spider mite infestion to me

Just curious as to how you are going to grow a seedless plant variety.........from seed.

19
I had a spot in the yard open up since my Orange tree got killed by the cold damage so I said the hell with it and have bought the following:

Flavor King Pluot
Dapple Dandy Pluot
Spicezee Nectaplum
and lastly a Nadia CherryxPlum

the spicezee will go in the front yard since it is both an attractive plant and self fertile but the other 3 will go in the backyard so I think I shouldn't have any issues with pollen.
Also got a couple budsticks of Burbank plum I grafted on the Flavor King and if they are successful should definitely increase pollenization chances.

I wanna get 1 or 2 varieties or Opuntia going so I am looking for pads of larger fruited and tasty selections of those.

Also looking to get some different Red/Pink Fleshed Guava scions. I already have barbie pink so no need for that or ruby supreme.

And finally looking for improved Loquat Scions. preferably Novak, Avri or Peluche.

lemme know what you got.

Any chance of shipping the 5 gals?

I thought it was strange I could no longer access the website.

Have you tried just calling the main number?

23
I have asked everywhere...
Any leads on how to purchase a Jalisco guava?

Cuttings will be available in March.....practice on your rooting.

Are you still planning on selling cuttings this year?  Extremely interested if you are.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Bloomsweet
« on: March 21, 2017, 09:48:48 AM »
Yeah as I said in the other post, I do not believe Ilya11's tree to be bloomsweet. The fruit are round not teardrop shaped and have orange colored flesh.

They are a dead ringer for a cocktail grapefuit (mandelo)  except they seem to be lacking seeds.

Not saying they are not a tasty fruit, I just don't believe these are true bloomsweet grapefruit.

I would say avoid blood oranges and their hybrids.  Blood Oranges actually require cold weather to acquire the red coloring.

This is an example of what they look like without adequate chilling
